Hope everyone had a nice day off for Columbus Day and if you didn't have a day off, thennnn you know what it's like to work in sports information.  But today, today is a new day.  It is Tuesday here in wonderful McDonough and that can only mean one thing ... blog updating!!!

Well anyway, as Barbara mentioned in her blog, she and I gave a number of presentations on the dangers of social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, YouTube, etc.  We tried to keep the freshmen that attended interested with embarrassing wall posts, photos and status messages.  With the rise of Facebook and MySpace, social networking has become one more area that we try to help our student-athletes understand.  We want our kids to make themselves accessible but not get hurt in the process.

Men's Tennis

As for some sports news here, the men's tennis team had a very successful three days at the Navy Gold Invitational in Annapolis, Maryland this past weekend.  Rafael Notario won a Singles Flight Championship and the duos of Charlie Caris/David Tillem and Tim Walsh/Will Lowell won Doubles Flight Championships.   Charlie is undefeated on the court these last two weekends and congrats to the whole team on their play of late.

Women's Soccer

Two pivotal wins this weekend to move up in the national polls.  Although they are still receiving votes, they are steadily garnering more attention.  This weekend it's Pittsburgh on Friday at 3 p.m. and WVU on Sunday at 1 p.m.  For the HOYA BLUE kids on Friday, you will receive a free pass to Midnight Madness for attending the game!!!  Sunday's game will be Senior Day as the team will recognize the accomplishments of Toni Marie Hudson, Erika Roberts and Norah Swanson, the all-time winningest class in Hoya history.  Congrats also goes out to Ingrid Wells for her BIG EAST Honor Roll selection this week.  That makes five different GU players to be recognized this season.

Hoya Insider

We just finished shooting HI this week and it will be centered completely around Midnight Madness so we hope everyone enjoys it.  There will be interviews with members of the men's and women's basketball teams and one or two more special guests.

If you have any comments on the blogs, Hoya Insider, anything in general you'd like to see us do more of on these sites, feel free to e-mail me at and I will try and get back to you as soon as possible.  For now though, I'm off to class myself after some Burger Madness (shameless plug).
