I'm sitting at shoot-around before the first game of the season with the women's basketball team. This game is not only the season opener and a homecoming of sorts for Coach, but it marks the first of a six-game road trip to start the season for the Hoyas.
We had a long journey just to get here with a bumpy flight to Chicago and a connecting flight to Springfield, Mo., in a plane where freshman center Sydney Wilson couldn't even stand up straight. On a small plane, it is not uncommon for us to kind of take things over but yesterday was even better as we learned from a fellow passenger that "Jesus Loves" Assistant Coach Keith Brown.
We had a quick meal in our rooms (from Jimmy John's, I will be bringing this up every time we have it since this is my favorite sandwich shop and there is not a location in DC, hint, hint) and it was lights out for the girls.
Now the team is getting a quick shoot-around in this morning. Since it is a 2 p.m. game (Central Time) this will be a short one but it's still good to get the blood flowing.
The team looks sharp, they are hitting shots and everyone is in good spirits. Hopefully this continues this afternoon. We are also expecting a decent Georgetown contingent including most of Jaleesa Butler's family (she is from St. Louis) and a big crowd cheering on Coach in her return to Springfield.
I believe we will be eating Outback for dinner tonight although plans could change since every local here has been raving about Lambert's "Home of the Thrown Rolls". When I mentioned this to Coach Brown he looked skeptical, but you never know...
Make sure to check out the live stats or webcast this afternoon as we open the season. Sitting here I can tell you one thing, it's going to be exciting!
