Happy Thanksgiving Hoya fans! We took a small Thanksgiving hiatus from the blog, but as I'm sure you know, that didn't mean we stopped working. Over the holiday both of the basketball teams kept on rolling going undefeated!
The wins were the most important part, but on Monday we learned that both a men's and a women's player earned the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week award. Congratulations to Sugar Rodgers and Hollis Thompson! Both players had outstanding weeks, and more importantly, show what a bright future Georgetown Basketball holds.
I am currently in the City of Brotherly Love with the women's team as we prepare to play LaSalle this evening. The team has been in good spirits on a four-game win streak, but what seems to be on the forefront of everyone's minds is that finals are on the horizon. Academic Advisor Katie Boin has been with us on every trip this season and she held study hall on the bus ride here, in the lobby last night and is holding another mandatory study session as I type. This is a difficult part of the semester for our student-athletes to miss and I commend their efforts in trying to stay on track despite a hectic travel schedule.
Another thing that takes the girls' minds away from school and basketball is the upcoming holiday. When we arrived at the hotel last night, the staff had just started to put up the Christmas decorations. This morning when we came downstairs we walked into a Winter Wonderland prompting some caroling out of a number of girls. Let's hope their skills on the court are better than their singing voices...
I won't make any bold predictions for the game tonight because, like most games, we have the talent to win but need to play our game in order to do so. Make sure to tune into the webcast or live stats available in our schedule on www.GUHoyas.com. Also, don't forget we have a huge game against Wake Forest on Saturday at McDonough Arena. Come out to support the women at 1 p.m. before heading to the men's game against American at 4 p.m.
