Never a Dull Moment at Georgetown ...

First off, I hope all of our readers had a chance to enjoy the holiday weekend.  My weekend was full of Hoya athletics.  Saturday featured a thrilling women's basketball game where the then-24/18 Hoyas defeated the Louisville Cardinals for their 14th-straight victory, a program best.  That along with the win over Providence earlier in the week propelled the women to a ranking of 19 in the AP poll this week.  The ESPN/USA Today poll comes out tomorrow.

I also covered the track & field team on Saturday - where our middle distance runners proved to be as dominant as ever.  The men took one and two in the men's 800-meter while Emily Infeld, just a sophomore and already a three-time All-American, won the women's 800-meter and ran an NCAA provisional-qualifying time.  Our hurdlers looked impressive too.  The men took two, three and four and the women took fourth at the PSU Northeast Challenge.

On Sunday, I had the opportunity to help out Barbara Jonas, our women's basketball sports information director.  She had pitched a story to Inside the BIG EAST, a show that airs on MASN every Saturday at 9:30 a.m.  The cameras followed women's basketball players Monica McNutt and Adria Crawford, two locals, around as they went to their favorite spots in the city.  The day had us bouncing around some great spots in the District - be sure to check out Inside the BIG EAST to find out where these two fun girls like to hang out in their free time.  I will warn you now that after watching the show, it's possible that you will be craving a half-smoke and a cupcake.  Those are my only hints, though; you'll have to watch to find out where we went!

Both the men's and women's basketball teams will start the week off on the road - the women play at Cincy tomorrow and the men play at Pitt on Wednesday but they will return home on Saturday.  Be sure to catch both games as the men take on Rutgers for noon time hoops at Verizon Center and then roll back to McDonough for women's hoops against DePaul at 3 p.m.

And for those of you Hoya fans who cannot take all of these land-based sports, our swimming & diving team will take on Army on Friday at 4 p.m. and St. Bonaventure on Saturday at 1 p.m. - both at McCarthy Pool.  The women's team just posted its sixth-straight win over crosstown foe American on Saturday ... Shout out to Coordinator for Ticket Operations Julia Gaudet who referred to the meet as the, "Foxhall Faceoff" - clearly she was made for the marketing world.
