Like a really good song on an album that features a No. 1 single, "Selection Monday" gets stuck in the shadow of the national holiday we know as "Selection Sunday". Though, like that really good song it certainly deserves some attention.
If you haven't picked up on it, the "Selection Monday" I refer to is the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament selection show that begins tonight at 7 p.m. Anyone who may be reading this blog probably already knows that the men's basketball team has a No. 3 seed in the first round and will play Ohio University, (new home of former Georgetown Assistant SID and blog contributor Drew Wiseman).
What you may not know is that tonight after 7 p.m. the Georgetown women's basketball team, who will be gathering in the Hoya Banquet Club at the Leavey Center to watch the ESPN selection show, will find out where they will be headed for the first round of the NCAA Tournament.More impressive, for a program that has not been to the tournament since 1992-93, the Hoyas will not be "on the bubble" holding their collective breaths to see if they are in or not.
If you're anything like me, you've probably been checking
out Charlie Crème's Bracketology Blog (http://espn.go.com/ncw/bracketology).
As of right now, Charlie has us as a No. 4 seed in the Sacramento Region taking
on Patriot League Champion Lehigh (My Dad's alma mater) in Norfolk, Va. If this
holds true it would be a nice homecoming for head coach Terri Williams
Flournoy, who grew up in Hampton, as well as Sugar Rodgers (Suffolk, Va.) and
Shanice Fuller (Chesapeake, Va.).We'll see if that holds true tonight when the final brackets are announced.
