LIVE BIG EAST Women's Lacrosse Championship!

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

The day has come ladies and gentlemen!  Once again the Hoyas advanced to the BIG EAST Championship game.  For the fourth year in a row we have made it, but hopefully this season the outcome is different in previous years.  Georgetown/Syracuse, I don't think I need to explain what this game means but anyway here are a few nuggets of info before the opening draw.

- Georgetown leads the series 12-3, but is 3-3 in the last three meetings

- Our average margin of victory in the last three meetings is just one goal while it is 8.7 goals for Syracuse

- GU defeated Syracuse 10-9 one week ago today at the Carrier Dome for the BIG EAST Regular Season Championship

- Head Coach Ricky Fried and SU Head Coach Gary Gait are two of only a handful of male coaches in D-I women's lax, both played professional lacrosse but transitioned into coaching women

See you in a bit for the opening draw!

Live Stats

2nd Half

0:00- VICTORY!!!! Logan McCraw, Ashby Kaestner, Jordy Kirr and Caitlin Formby were all named All-Tournament.  Molly Ford was the tournament's Most Outstanding Player!  Make sure to watch the selection show on Sunday at 10 p.m.

1:58- Syracuse is making a game of it, GU was stalling and turned it over resulting in an SU goal on the other end.  We need this draw control

9:05- It looked like almost the exact same play as Erin Lovett did the same thing diving and bouncing it past Liz Hogan to make ti 13-10

9:59- Jordy did a spin on the left side and dove with the shot for a goal!

17:27- The run was stopped by a point-blank shot from SU

19:16- Jordy Kirr finds the back of the cage taking a pass from Erin Lovett who has returned after an injury earlier this season, this 3-0 run is just what we needed

20:58- Ford from Bozel Georgetown leads 10-9

22:54- Georgetown ties it up as Sophia Thomas scores!

24:35- First lead of the afternoon for the Orange, this is a 3-0 run that needs to be stopped

28:10- Syracuse strikes first on a great play that was difficult for GU to defend

30:00- After a 15-minute break, we are almost back for the second half.  Here are a few things to ponder going into the second

- In the previous three BE Championship games, the winning team scored 12 goals

- In 2008, GU led by one (3-2) at the break before falling 12-6

- Molly Ford has three goals for the Hoyas today

1st Half (Georgetown 8. Syracuse 7)

0:00- Cuse got a shot off to end the half, but Georgetown leads at the break 8-7

1:10- SU goal as we wind it down to halftime

2:40- Ford with a nice spin move and a low shot on the left side, Georgetown leads by two again but I'm sure it won't stay that way for long the way this game has benn going

5:23- Kaestner on a free position and GU leads 7-6

6:26- And Syracuse ties it up again

7:35- After an SU yellow, they still manage to get a goal.  Rats!

12:49- Logan McCraw makes a brilliant run up the field but gets the ball hit out of her stick in front of the cage, Dina Jackson picks it up and fires it in for GU's first multiple-goal lead of the game

14:24- A textbook one-timer from Kirr to Kaestner to make it 5-4

14:55- Can no one take a commanding lead??  SU on the other end

16:17- Jordy Kirr from Bunny O'Reilly on a restart!!!!

17:50- Cuse on the free position, no one seems to be able to gain momentum

21:06- Ford scores off the draw control, she's making up for a quiet game against the Orange last week

21:41- After a media timeout, Cuse scores on the next play

24:01- Everyone is getting into the act on defense as a number of attackers are allowing GU second chances.  Ford takes advantage of one to go ahead 2-1.  Also on Hogan's previous save she became the all-time saves leader for Syracuse

28:01- A similar play on the other end, this is going to be a shootout

29:11- A nice little give and go from Kaestner to Mary Beth Brophy to give GU the first goal of the game

30:00- Opening draw control goes to...Ashby Kaestner for Georgetown!
