A Prayer for David Fajgenbaum

I was struggling with something to write earlier today - my assigned day to blog - and I came up with some lame numbers to post.  When I came home after an evening out with my family, I had an e-mail that prompted me to do something more.
When I came to Georgetown in September, 2005, I was immediately thrust into working with the football team, which was two weeks into its season.

One of the first players I really got to know was a reserve quarterback named David Fajgenbaum.  Dave didn't play that much; matter of fact, I don't think he played at all.  But if you ask any of the coaches and staff from those teams, they would all say that Dave Fajgenbaum is one of the nicest people you could ever meet.

Dave graduated from Georgetown in 2007 and before he did he was named to the All-USA College Academic First Team, USA Today's recognition for outstanding undergraduates. He and 19 other juniors and seniors received trophies and $2,500 cash awards as representatives of all outstanding undergraduates.

On top of that he was a finalist for a Rhodes Scholarship and had done terrific work with a group he started on campus called Students of Ailing Mothers & Fathers, named in honor of his mother, Anne Marie, who passed away during his freshman year.

The reason I felt compelled to write this is because David himself has been hospitalized in recent weeks with an illness.  From reports through his family on a website page established for him, I have been able to read of his progress.  He's doing better now and the reports seem to be positive, but if you'd like to read more, please visit http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/davidfajgenbaum/mystory

David is a wonderful young man, someone who really welcomed me when I came to Georgetown and he is in my thoughts daily as he fights through this chapter.
