Greetings from the Yale Bowl!
As I type, it's about 54 minutes until game time. Last week it was the brand new, modern look of Lafayette's Fisher Stadium (and being in my hometown). This week it's the nostalgic look and feel of everything surrounding the Yale Bowl.
The Yale Bowl was built in 1914 and while in excellent condition still has that feel to it. The pressbox is open air, which makes it all the more fortunate that the weather is beautiful here in New Haven, Conn. Earlier in the morning we were able to hear the marching band warming up and the whole stadium kind of smells like funnel cake.
Also adding to the old-timey feel, as Chuck Timanus and I had discussed, the Yale beat reporter sitting next to me is dressed like media members from the movie "Eight Men Out" or "The Natural". The guy is wearing a top hat that should have a press card in it. I wish he was working off of a typewriter. Only the music over the PA system, including, Cali Swag District's timeless classic "Teach Me How to Dougie" reminds me that this is not 1950 opposed to 2010.
I'll have more football related info (along with random observations from the Yale Bowl) as we move along, so you should probably just keep this window open and hit refresh every now and then...updates will appear after the jump.

11:20 a.m.: It's 45 minutes until game time and Eminem's "Til I Collapse" just came on (one of my favorite pre-game songs ever). So I am now motivated to give you Georgetown's starters for today's game.

11:55 a.m. - I'm officially cool with this place. The marching band was just intro'ed by a guy imitating the "I'm On a Horse" Old Spice commercial. He was actually pretty spot on with his imitation.Hope you are already tuned into Chuck Timanus' broadcast live here at GUHoyas.com
Noon: As Nick Parrish and Dan Semler go out to midfield for the coin toss with Yale Captain Tom McCarthy it seems like a good time to drop in this little note: Georgetown's last victory over an Ivy League opponent came on Oct. 18, 2003 when they defeated Cornell 49-20. They have lost 10 straight games to Ivy League opponents since then...On a good note, Georgetown won the coin toss and will defer to the second half. The Hoyas are now 2-1 on coin tosses this season!
1ST QUARTER:
Kick-Off/Opening Drive: Brett Weiss' kick is returned to the Yale 40, the tackle is made by New Haven native Jeremy Moore...Yale on three plays has already moved the ball down to the Georgetown 19.
12:40: Georgetown bends but does not break. The Hoyas forced Yale into a field goal attempt and for the second week in a row Danny Thompson, Jr. comes up with a block...Georgetown takes over at the Yale 19...Darby's first completion goes to Chance Logan for 11 yards and a Georgetown first down!
11:30 Hoyas First Drive: On the Hoyas first drive we are seeing a lot of Logan and Oladeji in the backfield together with Ryan lined up to the right and Lawrence and Burke on the left...Logan broke off a nice 11 yard carry to go with his reception, but the Hoyas were stalled forcing Matt MacZura on to punt...MacZura's punt was downed at Yale's 17.
8:20: Georgetown forces a Yale punt, as Paul Sant'Ambrogio had two stops, including a tackle for a loss to kill the Yale drive. Jeremy Grasso and Robert McCabe each had stops for the defense...Zack Wilke took the punt at the Georgetown 23, where the Hoyas will start.
7:54: Scott Darby completes an 18 yard pass to Jeff Burke and Oladeji's five yard carry gets Georgetown into Yale territory, but Yale made a big 3rd Down stop to bring MacZura back onto the field to punt...6:34 **UPDATE** All Matt MacZura does is pin the opposing team inside their own 20! MacZura pins Yale inside their own 20 for the second time, with a Patriot League leading 7 punts inside the 20 this season.
4:35 Schaetzke is starting to make his presence felt, batting down a pass, before Yale's Patrick Witt completed a pass for a first down. Then on another Witt completion, Schaetzke made him pay for hanging in the pocket. With that being said, Yale has now driven across midfield on the last completion to the GU 47...Patrick O'Donnell's big open field tackle on Yale's Mordecai Cargill and an incompletion force another Yale punt.
3:30: So Yale's punter Alex Barnes is also having a nice day. He just pinned the ball down at the GU 4 yard line. Darby came out quickly completing a pass to Patrick Ryan and then Logan had a carry for a first down...Just as I type that I failed pitch was recovered by Yale's Jordan Haynes and run about eight yards into the end zone to give the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead after the point after.
1:28: Georgetown has its best field position of the day as freshman Dalen Claytor almost took one to the house. He was slowed up as a Yale player got a hold of the back of his leg at the Yale 35.
00:43: All I can say is WOW! When I get the game highlights from Defensive Coordinator Rob Sgarlata everyone NEEDS to see this play. Scott Darby threw long and sophomore WR Jamal Davis, with a Yale defensive back hanging on his arms, bobbled the ball and came down with the catch in the end zone for six points. Weiss' extra point ties the score at 7.
End of the 1st Quarter: Yale ball 3rd and 6 at their own 30.
2nd Quarter:
14:34: Jeremy Moore made another stop to end Yale's drive after making a beautiful deflection on a deep pass late in the first quarter...Georgetown was unable to get anything going on the ensuing drive as MacZura will be forced to punt once more...Like clockwork, MacZura's punt will start Yale at their own 15.
13:11: A long run from Yale's Deon Randall and a 15 yard facemasking penalty on Georgetown moves the ball across midfield at the 49...Witt has strung together a few big completions, including one to Jordan Forney to move the ball to the Hoyas 20 yard line...Alex Thomas just followed a few blocks and broke a tackle to put Yale on the board again. Alex Barnes' point after makes it 14-7 Yale with 10:30 remaining in the half.
10:32: Dalen Claytor had another impressive return out to the GU 40 yard line. He has stayed in the game and took a pitch for a gain of 5 yards...Georgetown just picked up a first down as Keerome Lawrence caught a pass for 4 yards and a Yale player led with his head to bring him down. The crowd here at the Yale Bowl is not responding well to the unnecessary roughness call.
9:20: Claytor picked up another Hoyas' first down and Darby threw a completion to Ryan as the Hoyas continue to move the ball into Yale's side of the field...A chop block on Georgetown will set up a 3rd and 12...But Darby connects with Ryan again for a GU first down at the Yale 21...A Yale defensive back just saved a touchdown breaking up a Darby pass to Lawrence in the end zone...Philip Oladeji found a crease and ran into the end zone from 16 yards out for his second touchdown in two weeks. Weiss' extra point ties the score at 14 with 7:55 remaining in the half.
6:30: Yale is driving again...Witt complete a big pass on a 3rd and 8 down inside the GU 10 yard line...Alex Thomas would score his second touchdown of the game a play later, though the snap on the PAT was fumbled making the score 20-14.
4:30: Darby finds Lawrence for close to 20 yards on the completion to pick up a big first down for Georgetown. Though a false start and an incompletion has halted their progress...GU calls for their first timeout of the half with 4:01 remaining...GU will be forced to punt from their 45 yard line...Yale will start with the ball at the 15 yard line...This is the first time today that Yale has scored and Georgetown hasn't answered right back.
3:54: I spoke too soon. a false start was called on the Hoyas. MacZura will re-punt and Yale will take the ball at the 30 yard line. The first time Yale has started beyond their own 20 yard line on a punt today.
2:41: Georgetown's sideline and defense is not very happy after what looked like a forced fumble and Georgetown recovery was ruled a Yale completion and down by contact at the GU 40.
1:11: Yale scores again as Witt found TE Chris Blohm across the middle of the end zone. The point after is good and Yale now leads 27-14 with 37 seconds remaining in the half.
0:37: Georgetown is moving the ball quickly in the hurry up as Darby found Davis for a long gain and then found Ryan who was able to get out of bounds and stop the clock. Davis then was a step too short to catch Darby's pass in the end zone from the 47 yard line. Another long pass attempt to Davis will fall incomplete as time runs out on the first half.
End of the 1st half...
3RD QUARTER
Kick-Off: Georgetown will be back to receive the Yale kick-off to begin the second half. It's going to be Jeremy Moore and Dalen Claytor back to receive for Georgetown when we get started.
And just like that Jeremy Moore will take it to the house!!! Moore received the kick-off at around the 15 yard line and ran it 85 yards up the left sideline for Georgetown's first kick-off return since J. Ihezie did it against Lehigh in 2004.
13:58: Jayah Kaisamba just picked off Witt's pass for his second interception of the season...Just seconds later Darby found Keerome Lawrence for a 29 yard completion down to the seven yard line. Keerome is now under center and just as I typed that he ran it in from five yards out to tie the score before the PAT. Brett Weiss' extra point puts Georgetown in front 28-27, their first lead of the game. Talk about a momentum shifter.
11:25: A decent sized pocket of Georgetown on the far side of the field is about all that can be heard at the Yale Bowl as the Hoyas just forced a Yale fourth down...Zack Wilke is now back at around the 15 yard line to receive the punt.
10:42: The second half has turned into a New Haven homecoming for Moore and Lawrence. Lawrence just turned a short pass into a 25 yard reception, then picked up another five on a reception...Jeff Burke, he's not from New Haven, but just took a screen pass from Darby down to the seven yard line for a 37 yard gain.
8:28: John O'Leary just made his first catch of the season a big one. O'Leary caught the Darby pass in the left corner of the end zone to put Georgetown in front 35-27. I overheard someone in the pressbox mention how they thought the Yale DB covering O'Leary was going to draw a flag for being draped all over him.
6:08: Yale is moving the ball quickly, now down insde the Hoyas 15 yard line. Witt had a big 3rd and 12 completion as he continues to show he is unphased by 3rd and long...Yale again has a 3rd and this time 2, that Alex Thomas takes into the end zone for his third touchdown of the afternoon. The extra point is good, the score is now 35-34 Georgetown.
4:13: Keerome Lawrence does it again. A pass over the middle from Darby turns into a 26 yard gain out to midfield...A Yale sack and a holding penalty on what could have been a 15 yard completion to Jamal Davis has turned into a 4th and 25. MacZura's punt is going to be downed at the Yale 39.
1:38: Andrew Schaetzke just made a huge tackle on 3rd and 2 to force a Yale punt. Zack Wilke made a fair catch at the Hoyas 15 yard line, as the Blue & Gray will take over with 1:18 remaining in the 3rd quarter.
1:00: Offensive coordinator David Patenaude said during training camp that if Chance Logan can get to the outside he is dangerous. Patenaude speaks the truth. Logan got to the edge and picked up 19 yards...Oladeji picked up another eight between the tackles, but Darby's deep ball to Patrick Ryan, who was all alone downfield was overthrown by a yard as time runs out on a huge 3rd quarter for the Hoyas.
End of the 3rd quarter...GU 1st and 10 at their own 47 when the fourth quarter starts.
4TH QUARTER
Notes: Scott Darby has now thrown for over 300 yards. He is the first GU QB to throw for over 300 since Isaiah Kempf did it against Yale last year...Keerome Lawrence is the first receiver to go over 100 yards since Robert Lane did it against Yale last season.
14:05: Andrew Schaetzke is starting out the fourth quarter today much like last week. In two Yale offensive plays he tackled Witt for a two yard gain and then knocked Cargill down for a three yard loss...Oh, and Jeremy Moore just broke up another pass, his third pass deflected today...Yale is punting.
13:08: Georgetown will take over at the Yale 45 yard line...Chance Logan just weaved his way through middle of the field for a pick up of nine yards. He's pretty quick. Now Logan showing off some power, getting a few tough yards and a GU first down.
11:41: One of the things that makes Keerome Lawrence so dangerous is that he is not easily taken down. Lawrence caught a screen pass, broke one tackle and then drug two more for a GU first down down to about the Yale 13 yard line...Darby picked up another three yards on a keeper. Georgetown will call at timeout with 10:28 on the clock with a 3rd and 6 at the 9 yard line.
10:20: All good things must come to an end. Scott Darby had thrown close to 100 passes this season without an INT. He just threw one down inside the Yale five yard line. The clock is closing in on the 10 minute mark and Yale is coming back the other way with the Hoyas still in front 35-34.
9:00: Witt picks up another crucial third down, completing a pass to Jordan Forney for nine yards on a 3rd and 8...Witt almost struck deep as Yale's Chris Smith laid out for the pass, he was unable to come up with it though and may have knocked the air out of himself in the process...Witt found Gio Christodolou for a 25 yard completion down to the Hoyas 31...Alex Thomas is now getting into the act again picking up seven on his last carry and then making a catch to get down to the one.
4:59: Georgetown has just stuffed Yale on three straight plays from one yard out. That brings up 4th and 1 and the Bulldogs' field goal unit with a chance to retake the lead...This is some kind of AMAZING. Georgetown blocks its second field goal of the game and will take over possession at their own six yard line with 4:41 remaining. Robert McCabe will be credited with the blocked kick.
3:09: Max Waizenegger just made a four yard reception for a Georgetown first down as the clock is now down under three minutes here at the Yale Bowl. Chance Logan picked up a yard on a tough carry as the Hoyas continue to just run time off the clock.
2:00: Philip Oladeji just picked up four more yards to bring up 3rd and 4...Another tough run picks up two more, but it won't be enough as Yale will call a time out with 1:37 left. GU will be forced to punt.
1:17: Yale just picked up 19 yards on a completion to Alex Thomas...Jeremy Grasso nearly had a sack of Witt, but he was able to throw a short incompletion to Thomas to keep the ball at the GU 47 and stop the clock...Witt makes another completion down to the GU 33 as the clock runs under one minute and another one to the GU 24.
0:42: It's now 3rd and 2 at the GU 24...Alex Thomas makes another huge play to get the ball down to the Georgetown 14 yard line with 25 seconds and counting. Thomas is stuffed in the backfield, as Yale will use its second time out of the half with 18 seconds left.
00:04: As time runs out Patrick Witt will run into the end zone for the game-winner giving Yale a 40-35 victory ending the Hoyas two game winning streak. This has been the among the most exciting college football games I've ever seen. A shame that Georgetown came out on the losing end.
