WELCOME TO THE GEORGETOWN FOOTBALL GAME DAY BLOG!

I will try to keep you somewhat entertained and informed throughout the afternoon as the Hoyas take on the Preseason Patriot League favorite Colgate Raiders. This week we are in Hamilton, N.Y. a nice town with a very cool small town feel to it. On the bus into the stadium this morning we drove through the main drag of town to several blocks worth of what appeared to be a combination tailgate/farmers market/bazaar. For Patriot League travelers it reminds of a little of the historic Bethlehem, Pa. area near Lehigh (though with less hills).

Climate wise it is also a stark change from last week where the game time temperature at Multi-Sport Field was 92 degrees. It is currently 53 degrees here. I could have used a hoodie.

Some Fun Facts to the tune of "You Give Love a Bad Name" by Bon Jovi (currrently playing on Colgate's PA system.

* Colgate's QB Greg Sullivan was the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and so far the only non-Hoya to walk away with the weekly honor. RB Nate Eachus, who started his career at Colgate as a linebacker has transitioned into the backfield well, leading the Patriot League in rushing and ranking fourth in the nation averaging 142 yards per game.

*The Series...Georgetown and Colgate have met seven times, beginning the series the year after GU joined the Patriot League in 2002. Colgate has won each of the seven matchups.

*In the Red Zone...The Hoyas offense has scored in 11-of-12 trips into their opponents 20 yard line, including 10 touchdowns. That is the second best percentage in the Patriot League behind Bucknell who is 7-for-7...The Blue & Gray defense has also excelled leading the Patriot League by limiting opponents to 12 scores in 17 red zone chances. They have also blocked three field goals and created two turnovers inside their own 20 yard line.

*Unimportant Fact of the Day...We stayed at the Radisson of Utica last night where they had those sleep number beds that you may see on commercials. I learned through a series of trial and error that my sleep number is 45.

I'll have more football related info (along with random observations from the lovely Andy Kerr Stadium) as we move along, so you should probably just keep this window open and hit refresh every now and then...updates will appear after the jump.

The Colgate people have a very eclectic taste in music. The last four songs, in order, have been by Bon Jovi, Eminem, Foo Fighters and now Young Jeezy (I Put On For My City is the song in case you were wondering).

12:50 p.m.: The Press Box at Andy Kerr Stadium is three stories, which means to go and visit with Chuck Timanus, the Voice of the Hoyas, I must walk up the stairs, which is a small price to pay for everything working. Chuck is all set up with our friends at CBS College Sports and just broadcasting FREE OF CHARGE at 12:50. You can listen by simply CLICKING HERE!

Obviously, if you're reading you know my internet is working and the music guy here keeps playing hits following Eminem and Jay-Z's Renegade with the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Tell Me Baby...I'll be back for the coin toss!

1:05 p.m.: Georgetown keeps winning coin tosses. The Hoyas have won its fourth consecutive coin toss and will kick to Colgate to open the game. Either Nick Parrish or Dan Semler is very good at picking heads or tails.

1ST QUARTER
15:00: After the Weiss kick Colgate starts with the ball at their own 31 yard line...The Raiders went to Nate Eachus three times on the first three plays to pick up one first down. Then a GU pass interference call has helped Colgate cross the ball over to the GU 46.

12:00: Eachus is getting the ball on the ground and in the air. He just picked up 18 yards on a pass from Sullivan to move the ball to the GU 23. For the Hoyas, Nick Parrish has been all over the place, combining with Andrew Schaetzke to get a stop bringing up a 4th and 1. But like the Hoyas a week ago, Colgate is able to convert on a 4th down to keep the drive going.

7:30: The Georgetown coaches talked about how Colgate likes to slow it down and control the clock, all week long leading up to this game. We're now at the halfway point of the first quarter and the Raiders are still on their initial drive. GU just drew a holding penalty to negate a Colgate TD. It's now 4th and Goal from the GU 3 yard line.

6:56: Evan Colborne makes the short field goal for Colgate to put the Raiders in front 3-0. Colborne will kick off to Jeremy Moore and Zack Wilke.

6:47: It's fun watching Jeremy Moore return kicks. He made a couple of moves and got some blocking to get up to the 50 yard line, where Georgetown will start with the ball.

6:00: On a third and 10 Darby finds Patrick Ryan for a big first down. Oladeji followed that with a strong run up the middle for about nine yards. Darby completes his next pass to Keerome Lawrence for another GU first down. Jeff Burke makes his first catch of the game with a quick screen and pick up of about four yards. A couple of incompletions will bring up a Brett Weiss field goal attempt for Georgetown.

Brett Weiss nails the 38 yard field goal attempt with room to spare for his second field goal of the season. He will kick off to Colgate in a few seconds.

3:15: Noah Jackson from Colgate almost took it to the house, luckily Paul Sant'Ambrogio was there to stop him at the 50. Another Colgate holding penalty negated what would have been close to a 30 yard gain for Eachus.

1:39: Another holding penalty and an Andrew Schaetzke tackle of Greg Sullivan will bring up 4th and 8. Evan Goldszak will punt to Zack Wilke...Georgetown takes over from their own 10.

End of the First Quarter...Georgetown will start the 2nd with a 3rd and 11 at their own nine yard line. The score is tied 3-3.

2ND QUARTER
14:43: Matt MacZura's punt hit the leg of a Colgate player and Georgetown recovered. HUGE break for the Hoyas! Who now have the ball at the Raiders 49 yard line...Make that the Raiders 41 after a Scott Darby eight yard rush.

11:43: The Hoyas, after a false start penalty, were not able to make up much ground. MacZura is set to punt again, lined up at the GU 45...The Hoyas down the ball at the Colgate 10 yard line where they will take over with 10:59 left in the second half.

6:52: Colgate is driving again, as Sullivan completed a pass to Doug Rosnick. The Hoyas are continuing to get a steady dose of Nate Eachus, who has carried four times on this drive. The Raiders have controlled the time of possession thus far.

3:50: Eachus continues to pick up yards down inside the Georgetown 20. He has already picked up 100 yards on the ground, according to the press box PA announcer. Eachus just converted a 4th and 3 to keep the ball moving down to the 12 yard line.

1:54: Eachus scored from one yard out to put Colgate in front 9-3. The extra point from Colborne makes it 10-3. They used 18 plays to go 90 yards and take 9:05 off the clock. Very much as advertised...Wilke and Moore will get another chance to return a kick for Georgetown in a few.

1:49: Moore returns the kick to their own 32, where Isaiah Kempf will take over at QB for the Hoyas...Colgate's defense not giving up much, as MacZura will be forced to punt again.

00:40: Greg Sullivan picked up 11 yards and completed a six yard pass to move the ball down to the GU 41. Colgate calls its first timeout with 31 seconds left in the half.

00:23: Eachus picked up a little over 20 on a short pass from Sullivan getting down to Georgetown's 21 yard line. Sullivan threw a dangerous pass to Rosnick in the end zone with Jeremy Moore in coverage. The ball sailed just over the hands of both with Moore in good position. Parrish made a great shoestring tackle of Sullivan, who had some running room. Colgate using its final time out.

00:12 Georgetown sees the personnel that Colgate brings out on 3rd and 6 with 12 seconds and calls a timeout of its own. The Hoyas have one more TO left.

00:04: Schaetzke provided pressure to make Sullivan throw the ball away. But Colborne comes away with his second FG of the half to send Colgate into the locker rooms with a 13-3 lead. Georgetown will receive when the game resumes.

HALFTIME

3RD QUARTER
15:00: Jeremy Moore brings the ball out to the 43 yard line, but the Hoyas are stalled once more by a tough Colgate defense. MacZura's punt goes to the Colgate 20 yard line, but a Georgetown punt return interference call gives the Raiders the ball at the 38 with 13:23 remaining in the third quarter.

10:08: It did not look like Georgetown was going to be able to stop Eachus...until they did. GU stopped Eachus on a 4th down to take the ball back at their own 24 yard line. Darby is back under center for the Hoyas.

9:24: A Georgetown fumble gives the ball back to Colgate at the 29 yard line. Eachus picks up four on his first carry of the drive. Two plays later he picks up a first down to get the ball down to the GU 17 yard line.

6:23: Sullivan finds Doug Rosnick at the two yard line a play after GU had forced a fumble (that Colgate recovered) and dropped them for a three yard loss. Eachus rushes into the end zone for two yards for his second TD of the game. He has now carried the ball 32 times (unofficially). Colgate now leads 20-3.

5:58: Colgate, who may have been getting worried about Jeremy Moore breaking off long returns squibbed the kick to Kyle Miller at the GU 36...Kempf is back at QB and just completed a 14 yard pass to Kenny Furlough.

4:30: The Hoyas could not convert on a 4th Down and 2, giving the ball back to Colgate at their own 43...

2:50: Playing from behind against this Colgate team could prove to be difficult, as the Raiders are again eating up clock with a series of five yard runs. Colgate's offense has now had the ball for over 28 minutes.

1:00: George Cullen just made a huge tackle in the Raiders back field to bring up a 2nd and 12. Though a roughing the passer call on the next play will give Colgate a 1st and 10 at the 12 yard line.

END OF THE 3RD QUARTER...when play resumes Colgate will have the ball 2nd and 6 at the GU 9.

4TH QUARTER
15:00: Eachus scores again. He now has 39 carries for 202 yards. He's gotta be sore.

11:26: Kempf finds Max Waizenegger for a pickup of about 12 and a first down and Chance Logan does some strong running on a pitch to pick up another as the Hoyas are looking to take the ball into Colgate territory...Colgate's defense responded by stuffing a rushing attempt and sacking Kempf to bring on MacZura to punt again.

8:18: Georgetown was able to keep Colgate from moving the football downfield, but Evan Goldszak punt wasd downed on the one yard line. Two plays later Colgate forced another fumble at the 10 yard line, where they will take over. with 7:33 remaining in the game.

6:23: Eachus scores again. He has now carred 44 times for 220 yards and his fourth TD of the game to give Colgate a 34-3 lead.

4:55: Georgetown is forced to go three and out again and MacZura is back to punt. A nice punt from the reigning Patriot League Freshman of the Week to pin Colgate back at their own 24 yard line.

00:00: The clock will run out on the Hoyas and their unbeaten streak in the Patriot League. Wayne Heimuli will finish with 14 tackles unofficially and Nick Parrish will finish with 12, again unofficially.

Tough loss for the Hoyas, but hopefully you will all join us out at Multi-Sport Field when the Hoyas return home to take on Wagner next Saturday at 1 p.m. Tickets are still available!
