Greetings from Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium, where I am in the cozy confines of the press box and plan to be for the Georgetown women's soccer game at Ohio State. Kickoff is in just over 30 minutes and I'll be providing some insights throughout the game.  My first insight:  I'm really glad I'm inside and not down on the field.

Why, you ask, am I happy to be inside?  Because according to, it's 32 degrees with winds at 15 miles per hour and gusting up to 23 miles an hour.  As I look to my right out of the press box, the flags are blowing...with conviction.

4:52:  It's been a nice stay here in Columbus, Ohio.  I always enjoy visiting the city and have been here twice before for college soccer.  I had a nice dinner with the team last night at Bucca Di Beppo - the same place I ate when I worked at my previous school and we won to advance to the Final Four - and then we had a nice breakfast in the hotel this morning.  We noticed that the Miami of Ohio men's basketball team was staying at our hotel, but found out this morning the Detroit Red Wings were there too.  Kind of neat.

4:58 p.m.:  Starters are being introduced.  The Hoyas stayed on the field for the final few minutes and huddled up.  Starters for Georgetown:

Jacke DesJardin in goal

Emily Meges, Gabby Miller, Michaela Buonomo and Mary Kroening in the back

Ingrid Wells, Christina O'Tousa, Kelly D'Ambrisi, Amy Speck and Kailey Blain in the middle

Camille Trujillo at forward

5:02 p.m.  The Hoyas are kicking off going toward the goal in the south.  Ingrid Wells, one of only two Georgetown players, along with Mary Kroening, wearing shorts, kicks off.

2 minutes in and the Hoyas get a corner kick, taken by Wells, but cleared out by Ohio State

40:39:  after a throw-in on the far sideline, the refs rule a ball goes out the endline off Georgetown for an Ohio State corner

38:50:  Hoyas clear the ball out of the box but Ohio State keeps the pressure on and a shot is headed out by Michaela Buonomo leading to another corner, but Georgetown ends up with a goal kick.

36:12  On a counter, Ohio State plays the ball up the far side of the field and into the box, but a chip shot goes just over goal  Hoyas now have a free kick on the near sideline after Wells is fouled.

12th minute:  Amy Speck plays a ball toward the box and Kelly D'Ambrisi nearly gets a good foot on it, but is turned away by a Buckeye defender.

15th minute:  Ohio State corner #3 coming

19th minute:  A shot from Ohio State's Granberg is headed out of the box by O'Tousa, but a foul on the near sideline results in a free kick.  Jackie DesJardin punches the kick out of bounds and then makes a leap above the scrum off OSU's fourth corner.

21st minute:  Ingrid Wells plays a terrific ball into the box that nearly connects with Kailey Blain, but Ohio State counters.  It ends up with a one-on-one situation and Granberg is taken down in the box, giving Ohio State a PK.  Lauren Beachey converts making it 1-0 Ohio State.

29th minute:  A foul results in a free kick for the Hoyas.  Samantha Baker's shot from about 40 yards out goes through traffic and is saved.

37th minute:  A throw in for the Hoyas is cleared out.

41st minute:  Ohio State maintains possession after a failed clearance and a shot is headed out by Michaela Buonomo.  Corner coming for Ohio State.

43rd minute:  Georgetown's best chance of the half as Wells has control on the far sideline and plays a ball into the box, where Baker flicks it on but shot is saved.

44th minute:  Hoyas get some action as a ball is played into the box to Colleen Dinn who nearly gets a shot off but the ball is sent out by an OSU defender.   GU gets a corner with 30 seconds left but cannot convert.

HALFTIME:  Hoyas down 1-0.  Shots are 8-5 in favor of Ohio State.  Buckeyes have five corners, Georgetown has two.

48th minute:  A throw-in from D'Ambrisi is played into the box from Trujillo to O'Tousa but Ohio State clears it.

53rd minute:  Ohio State plays a ball up to the left flank and Ohio State pushes its lead to 2-0 when Tiffany Cameron takes a shot from outside the box that beats DesJardin to the far post.

61st minute:  A foul on Wells on near sideline results in free kick for Baker, who rifles a shot that the OSU goalkeeper saves on near post.

64th minute:  Georgetown playing numbers forward to get within one.  Ohio State pushes back and gets a shot off that goes wide; OSU player picks up ball on far post and takes bullet that DesJardin saves.

65th minute:  Sam Baker gets feed from Kaitlin Brenn and uncorks a bullet that goes wide from about 20 yards out.

78th minute:  Head Coach Dave Nolan subs in Kailey Blain and Alexa St. Martin to get some fresh legs out there.  Hoyas trying to make a push.

86th minute:  Wells blasts a shot from 25 yards out that goes just wide.
