The Battle of the Jesuits

Greetings from Verizon Center. I'm sitting courtside at The Phonebooth for today's game against Marquette.   It's strange for many of us with a 1 p.m. tipoff, but we're here and ready to roll in the Battle of the Jesuits.
Today's game is also part of the Jesuit Basketball Spotlight.  The Jesuit Basketball Spotlight project is part of a nationwide effort to identify basketball games between Jesuit schools and through those games, bring greater positive awareness to the Jesuit education and mission.  The project was developed by the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU) in response to member institutions wanting to spread the word of Jesuit higher education through the more than 90 basketball games in which Jesuit institutions play each other.

Prior to today's game, there was a Donor Recognition Event in the Dewar's Club at Verizon Center.  The reception, hosted by Hoyas Unlimited and the athletics development, recognizes donors for their contributions to scholarships.  Their assistance is invaluable to many of our student-athletes and programs.  A more detailed blog with photos from the event will follow in the next day or two.

At the first timeout, the Georgetown men's soccer team was honored as Head Coach Brian Wiese, his staff and the student-athletes were at center court.  The Hoyas were recognized for the BIG EAST divisional title they won and for reaching the second round of the NCAA Tournament this season.  Wiese and his staff were named the BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year.

A student from the endzone just came out for one of the shooting contests and hit a three-pointer for $225.  A nice little bonus for the afternoon.
