Good morning and welcome to the blog!

I'm Brooke Rayder and I'll be bringing you the news and notes from Georgetown's Patriot League Championship Game against Lehigh today from Goodman Stadium in Bethlehem, Pa. I'm sure you are at home anxiously awaiting the 12:30 kick-off from your homes (unless you're here). It's a beautiful day for Patriot League football in Bethlehem, Pa. Sunny, breezy, around 50 degrees, the last of the fall foliage is flying around on the field.

A little bit about the series: Lehigh leads 11-5, and 10-0 since Georgetown joined the Patriot League in 2001. The last Georgetown win against Lehigh was in 1925, with a 40-0 victory for the Hoyas.

You know what the Hoyas haven't had in 86 years? A chance to control their bid to the Division I FCS Championship. With a rushing defense that ranks 7th in the nation, the Hoyas look to stop a Lehigh offense that averages 491 yards per game.

Robert McCabe and Andrew Schaetzke are up to the task. Schaetzke has 11.5 sacks this season, leading the Patriot League. McCabe had 13 tackles in the win against Fordham last week, and 119 total on the season. I guarantee you Ryan Sakamoto could not throw down that many tackles in the Sports Information Department.

Lehigh fumbles, just three plays into the drive! Georgetown recovers!

Let's just say the internet is not friendly to the intern... but here we are, Lehigh up 7-0 after a five-minute drive, punting away to the Hoyas to the 15.

End of the 1st quarter, Lehigh 7, Georgetown 0

Start of the 2nd, Georgetown punting away, Maczura punts into the wind, maybe it was tipped? Chuck is checking it out. He can't believe it! Illegal touching called against Georgetown, Lehigh has 1st and 10 at the Hoya 33.

Lehigh's QB Chris Lum throws the pass to Drwal at the 12. First down Lehigh...Jefferson with the completion inside the 10...2nd and 4 for Lehigh...Lum throw it incomplete. Schaetzke was all over it. Incomplete on 3rd and 4.

4th and 4 for Lehigh with 13:35 left in the 2nd... Lehigh attempting the field goal...and it's good...Tim Divers puts Lehigh up 10-0 with 13:32 left in the 2nd.

Jeremy Moore out of bounds around the 46 yard line...big return! Kempf over the middle, to Waizenegger, 1ST DOWN...Picking up 4 on the carry...Now it's 3rd and 4 at the 32...Kempf throws it to Stafford in traffic. 1ST DOWN at the Lehigh 26...3rd and 4 for the Hoyas now, at the 20...Kempf scrambling shy of the 1st down.

4th and 5...lining up for the field goal...Weiss makes it 10-3 with 11:41 left in the 2nd quarter!

Hoyas kicking off, Suggs picks it up around the 10...meets the Hoyas pretty fast! 1st and 10 at their own 16 for Lehigh...Lum throws it long incomplete...2nd and 16...Lum gives it to Barket...Flag at the line, no gain for Lehigh...Unnecessary roughness called against Schaetzke....15 yards, 1st and 10 for Lehigh, big run, another first down for Lehigh.

10:43 to play in the 2nd, Lum throws to Drwal, 1st and 10 on the Hoya 38...Lum over the middle to Spadola, big gain close to the goal line...Georgetown calls timeout.

Colvin rushes in from the 1 yard-line after a tough unnecessary roughness call on Schaetzke. 17-3 Lehigh with 9:24 left in the 2nd...Jeremy Moore takes the kickoff LOOK AT HIM GO...out of bounds at the Lehigh 21. 69-yard return for Moore!

Just rocked out to "Call me Al" after that big return from Moore. Patrick Ryan on the completion on 3rd down...1st and goal!

2nd and goal...Campanella on the run, 7:40 left in the 2nd. 3rd down...Kempf incomplete.

Weiss comes out for the field goal...Lehigh 17, Georgetown 6 with 7:15 left in the 2nd.

Suggs gets the kick at the 20, out to around the 29...Let's get a stop!

Lum completes to Jefferson to the 38, 2nd and 1 for Lehigh...carries out to the 40...first down. Lum fakes and completes to Drwal for a big gain...1st and 10 at the Hoya 42...Lum hands it off to Barket...Schaetzke pulls him down. I will be able to spell his name right consistently soon...Pass complete to Hayden...3rd and 1 for Lehigh at the 32...Lum calls timeout.

Matt Fitz loses the ball! FUMBLE. HOYAS recover. Quintero with the strip! Hoyas 1st and 10 for Georgetown! Kempf scrambles, has to throw it away...2nd and 10 from the 21...Kempf scrambling again, sacked by Newton for a loss of three...3:40 left in the 2nd, 3rd and 13 for the Hoyas...Kempf under pressure throws it up...intercepted...the wind is killer today.

3:18 to go, Lehigh takes over at the Hoya 46, Lum over the middle to Spadola...1st down Lehigh

Lehigh gets a field goal from the Hoyas 19...Lehigh 20, Georgetown 6 with 1:25 to go in the 2nd.

Lehigh doesn't want to kick to Moore...He's been incredible on the kick returns! Georgetown has the ball at their 37, 1:20 to go. Chuck just used to word "yucky." He wants to see Moore return another one!

Kempf incomplete on 2nd and 10, it's 3rd and 10 at the 37...Kempf gets hit as he releases the ball...giving the ball back at the 37...Maczura punts it away to the 32, 62 seconds left...Lum out of the gun to Drwal, he picks up some yards after the pass...1st and 10 at the Georgetown 20...Lum passes to the endzone...Fitz gets rocked by Kaisamba in the back of the endzone...Lum has 310 passing yards so far...penalty on the run...holding on Lehigh...repeat 2nd down

Lum has to throw it away on 2nd down...intentional grounding...Chuck saw that one coming. Can't fool Chuck! 3rd down and 18 from the Hoya 28, 30 seconds left...Lum throws incomplete.

Divers attempting the 46-yard field goal...no good! Short..21 seconds left in the 2nd half. Lehigh 20, Georgetown 6.

Georgetown gets a play off, they'll run it in for halftime! Lehigh 20, Georgetown 6.

Halftime: Lehigh marching band. Getting way more love than Lady Gaga's "Edge of Glory." They have better hats than Lady Gaga too.

3RD QUARTER

Hoyas receiving, Moore returns to the 42-yard line...Let's see what we can do in the 2nd half.

Kempf in the gun...Ryan runs to the 50...2nd and 1 for Georgetown. Kempf incomplete, but a pass interference call...1st and 10 for Georgetown at the 41...Kempf gets tackled at the line after a short run...2nd and 6...Campanella gets a block for a 1st down...out of bounds at the 28...Kempf complete to Jamal Davis...Chuck calls that "acrobatism." He also uses "sneakerosity." What a guy.

Campanella runs it to the 6, 2nd and goal...Kempf incomplete to Davis... 3rd and goal...Kempf deflected, deflected to Waizenegger makes the catch in the endzone! That's what I would call acrobatism, Chuck! Weiss misses the extra point, Lehigh 20, Georgetown 12, 12:55 left in the 3rd.

It only took us 1:59 to get that touchdown. Let's get another one!

Weiss to kick...Suggs out to the 42-yard line...Lum out for the first time in the half...Spadola wide open in the middle...Dropped the ball...2nd and 10 for Lehigh...Lum looks, throws incomplete again...3rd and 10 at their own 42...illegal procedure on Lehigh, five-yard penalty. 3rd and 15. Lum completes it to Drwal...but it's not enough! 4th down. Three and out for Lehigh.

Georgetown down in their own end...Kempf throws an interception on 3rd and 15 after Georgetown returns the ball to their own 22, with a movement flag on 2nd down. Lehigh 27, Georgetown 12...11:20 left in the 3rd.

3rd and 7 after Kempf tries to run it through on 3rd and 2. False start against Georgetown. Hoyas punt it away.

Chuck's binoculars look like they've been run over by an 18-wheeler. He's been to a lot of football games, people.

Lehigh starts at their own 32...Lum hands it off...Gain of 6, 2nd and 4. Lehigh 1st down...8:53 left in the 3rd quarter. Lum stripped by Davies! But Lum falls on the ball at the 44. 2nd and 9 Lehigh...Quick screen pass for the 1st down at the Hoya 43...Lehigh picks up 6, 2nd and 4...False start on Lehigh...2nd and 9.

Lehigh inside the five yard line after a few passes from Lum...1st and goal...Lum runs it in for the touchdown...4:40 left in the 3rd. Lehigh 33, Georgetown 12.

Short kick goes out of bounds...Hoyas get it at their own 40-yard line. Kempf gets sacked around the 38...2nd and 11, Kempf completes the pass for 3rd and 4 with 3:30 left in the 3rd quarter. Kempf incomplete...Punting unit comes out.

Lehigh on their own 30...Lum gives it to Barket...picking up 6, 2nd and 4 for Lehigh. Lum throws it incomplete, Kaisamba playing some great D. 2:35 left in the 3rd...3rd and 4...Lum has to throw it away.

Lehigh downs the punt at the Georgetown 1. Chuck can't believe it. Georgetown out of their own endzone...Campanella gets a little room...2nd and 6, Campanella for one more...3rd and 3, Kempf throws it just over the head of Waizenegger.

Drwal returns to the Hoya 31...53 seconds left in the 3rd...Lum overthrows Spadola...2nd and 10, Schaetzke pulls down Barket for no gain...3rd and 10, Lum throws to Spadola for the 1st down, 6 seconds left in the 3rd quarter. Lehigh makes it the last play of the quarter.

4TH QUARTER

Lehigh has 1st and 10 at the Hoya 15, Lum play fake...Schaetzke ain't buyin what he's sellin, AND he slaps the ball away...2nd and 18, Lum completes the pass, holding penalty on Lehigh...2nd and 28, Schaetzke says ohhhh no...and Schaetzke only needs one more sack to become Georgetown's all-time leader in sacks...3rd and 31, short gain.

Lehigh punts it away, only to the 27-yard line. 4-yard punt. Chuck gets a chuckle out of that one. Say that ten times fast.

Scott Darby in the game for Georgetown, 1st and 10 from the 27...Off to Durham...2nd and 8, Darby incomplete down the field. 3rd and 8, Darby incomplete over the middle.

Chuck smells a big punt coming. Do you smell what the Chuck is cooking? I do. Drwal returns to the Hoyas 33-yard line with 11:19 left in the 4th. Barket has a 13-yard run, 1st and 10 for Lehigh. 2nd and 5 on the Georgetown 15, Barket gets the run, holding penalty on the run...10:21 left in the game.

While we're waiting...Lafayette 24, Holy Cross 23 with 2:23 left in the game.

2nd and 15, quick run. 3rd and 9, on the Hoya 19, Lum throws it to Fitz, incomplete. 4th and 9. Lehigh is going for it. Lum has to throw it away.

Hoyas take over on their own 19...Darby looks for Furlough, but he steps out of bounds. 2nd and 10, Darby passes for 2 yards. 3rd and 8, Furlough gets a pass interference call. Lehigh fans really not liking that one.

1st and 10 for the Hoyas with 8:22 left in the 4th. Darby to Furlough for two...2nd and 8 from the 38, Darby over the middle to Waizenegger! Big throw. 1st down.

Darby forced to get the pass off, intercepted at Lehigh's 27. 7:23 left in the 4th. Lum keeps it on the ground for 2nd and 6. Lum hands it off to Sherman, 3rd and 3 at the 34. 6:15 left in the 4th.

Lehigh gets it close to the 1st down, but they're going to measure. It's short! Lehigh punting unit comes onto the field. Short punt to the Georgetown 34-yard line.

Darby incomplete on 1st and 10 to Furlough. 2nd and 10, ball is dropped on the far side, 3rd and 10 at the 34. Darby gets it to Claytor, but he's short. Hoyas go for it. Waizenegger has the 1st down! Georgetown ball at their own 47.

Darby incomplete on 1st and 10. Incomplete to Kayal on 2nd and 10. 3rd and 10 with 4:10 left in the game. Darby under pressure gets rid of the football. 4th and 10. Hoyas go for it. Georgetown calls timeout. 4:05 left.

Darby sacked at the 42. Ball turned over on downs. Sherman runs forward to pick up a first down for Lehigh.

Fun fact about Ryan Sakamoto: He tweets, broadcasts, and looks up other Patriot League scores all at the same time. With a headset on.

Fitz pushes forward, 3rd and 4. Under 2 minutes to play. Lehigh runs for a 1st down.

Things that are scary at this game: the t-shirt cannon, and the church bell sound played before every third down. T-shirts flying everywhere!

Good Morning Georgetown football fans,

We just arrived here at Fitton Field on the campus of Holy Cross about 15 minutes ago and are setting up for today's game with Holy Cross. Right now, it's 36 degrees, as Worcester, Mass. is expecting 8-12 inches of snow today, though nothing is falling at the moment. I hope wherever you are reading (or listening to today's broadcast on GUHoyas.com) you are well prepared for the weather. If you're anything like me, maybe you even have some Hurricane Irene supplies left over.

This is a HUGE game for the Hoyas. A Georgetown win could create an unofficial Patriot League Championship game at Lehigh on Nov. 12. Though Holy Cross, currently in first place in the Patriot League looks to be the toughest opponent GU has had this season. They are 4-3 (2-0 Patriot League), with two of those losses coming to Top 25 teams. Ryan Taggart is only behind Lehigh's Chris Lum nationally in total offense per game and the Crusaders defense is neck and neck with Georgetown in total defense (HC is 1st, 322.7 yards/g) and scoring defense (HC is 2nd, 20.3 pts/g), behind Georgetown (19.9 pts./g). GU will need to put pressure on Taggart, a high school teammate of GU's No. 35 Wayne Heimuli at Trinity in Dallas, Texas.

Series Info: Georgetown trails the series with Holy Cross, 8-15, despite a 17-7 victory last year on Homecoming at Multi-Sport Field. GU has not won a game at Fitton Field since 1999, coincidentally the last time Georgetown had a winning record, which they clinched last week with a win over Colgate.

Fun with Numbers: Andrew Schaetzke is fourth in GU history with 24.5 sacks and sixth all-time in the Patriot League...Freshman wide receiver Kevin Macari is second in the nation in punt return average, at 16.6 yards per return. His 60 yard return last week was the fifth longest in Hoya history and the longest in the league this year...GU is +8 in turnover margin, after a three interception (2 from Jeremy Moore, 1 from Robert McCabe) last week. Holy Cross is -5 on the season.

Georgetown is on the field for warm-ups and the conversation in the radio booth now between Chuck Timanus and Holy Cross' legendary Bob Fouracre about the new windows in the pressbox here. Bob is in his 50th year of broadcasting and has been at Holy Cross since about 1970. He has one of those great radio voices and has been extremely helpful and getting us setup here. GU Offensive Coordinator David Patenaude, who had spent some time as a coach at Holy Cross was wondering if Chuck and Bob combined have over 100 years of radio experience. They may be a little short of that, but not by much.

Georgetown looks ready to go. Coach Kelly talked earlier in the week about how the guys love these types of big games. This is what college football is all about, playing for a chance to win the league on a cold day in late October, with what seems like a playlist of entirely AC/DC.

It's family weekend here, but due to the cold I'm guessing the families are holding off until a little closer to game time to arrive. As I type, the College of the Holy Cross Good Time Marching Band is on the field. They have one twirler, who is dressed for 80 degrees and sunny. She appears to be cold. What a trooper though.

COIN TOSS: Wayne Heimuli, Jeremiah Kayal and Nate Zimmel are out for the coin toss. Holy Cross wins the toss and will take kick-off.

On first and 10 Taggart completes to Mistretta for a 10 yard gain...Sean Campbell makes the tackle after a gain of 3 for Taggart...McCabe and Maliska make a takle for a loss on 2nd and 7 to bring up 3rd and 7...Schaetzke was blocked in the back as he was pursuing Taggart to force a punt.

Georgetown at own 37 (12:50)
Kempf completes a pass to Jamal Davis for a pick-up of 11 to move the chains...The Hoyas are moving the ball very well as Campanella picks up two, Daniel Sprotte gets another first down and Kempf completes to Patrick Ryan for a first down...Campanella is stuffed on two consecutive carries to bring up 3rd and a long 14...Kempf scrambles and finds Davis for a huge reception down to the 10 yard line...Kempf scrambles to bring up 3rd and goal from the 2...Campanella can't get in from two yards, as Brett Weiss will come on for an 18 yard field goal attempt...Kick good to put GU in front 3-0

Holy Cross at own 28 (8:15)
After a two-yard run Taggart completes a pass to Mistretta for 18 yards out to the HC47...Woods fumble and Jayah Kaisamba picks it up and returns it for about 8 yards to the Holy Cross 28...Huge recovery by Kaisamba.

GEORGETOWN at HC 28 (7:11)
After an illegal formation penalty, Kempf picks up what they lost on the penalty. Kempf fumbles the snap, but Campanella does a nice job picking it from the ground and not losing yardage...Kempf sacked back at the HC39 to bring up 4th and 21. MacZura is on to punt.

HOLY CROSS at own 14 (4:55)
MacZura punt was fair caught at the 14 where the Crusaders will take over...On 2nd and 10 Taggart completes to Mike Fess for 5 to bring up 3rd and 5...Taggart gets what he needs on the completion on 3rd down to move the chains...The snow is coming down a little heavier, as Colgate picks up 5 yards on two carries to bring up another 3rd and 5...McCabe and Nick Alfieri halt Taggart to bring up 4th and 1 as HC punts.

GEORGETOWN at own 35 (1:33)
GU will go three and out as MacZura on to punt on 4th and 12.

HOLY CROSS at own 40 (0:44)
Taggart keeps the ball himself and picks up 4 yards. His 2nd and 6 pass attempt falls short of his target to bring up 3rd and 6...Mike Fess makes the catch for about 6 to pick up the first down...Taggart was forced out of the pocket on first down and picks up 6 on the scramble as the snow starts to come down heavier...McCabe comes up to make a big play on Eddie Houghton (brother of former Hoya Charlie) to bring up 3rd and 2...Mistretta gets a carry and picks up about four for another first down...Andrew Schaetzke into the backfield quickly for a tackle for loss to bring up 2nd and 11...Wharton makes the tackle on the three yard reception for the Crusaders to bring up 3rd and 7...David Quintero interception! Quintero makes a jumping catch to end the Holy Cross drive. A flag on the play is an illegal block in the back on the return, moving the ball to their own 16.

GEORGETOWN at on 16 (11:42) 2ND QUARTER
Kempf picks up four yards on the first play, but then is sacked for six on 2nd to bring up 3rd and 12...Kempf on the keeper gets out to the 23 and is about 4 yards short of the first down...MacZura will be punting into the wind...

HOLY CROSS at own 44 (9:38)
Mistretta on the flanker sweep picks up about 14 yards as Heimuli and Schaetzke bring him down at the GU41...Jeremy Moore makes the tackle to stop Houghton for a one yard gain...Schaetzke forces Taggart from the pocket, who throws out of bounds to bring up 3rd and 9...Kaisamba called for a pass interference call, which gives HC a first down at the GU24...Andrew Maliska brings down Taggart as he is again chased from the pocket and brought down after a three yard gain...On 2nd and 7 a holding call on the Crusaders brings up 2nd and 17 at the 31...Taggart completes back to the 23 to bring up 3rd and 9...Taggart throws incomplete to Nate Stanley to bring on the field goal unit. It would be a 41 yarder with heavy wind and snow...Taggart drops the snap and GU will take over at their own 23.

GEORGETOWN at own 23 (5:46)
Kempf throws to Macari on a screen, but Holy Cross sniffed it out and knocks it backwards three yards...Campanella picks up four yards to get back to the original line to bring up 3rd and 9...Kempf passes for Sprotte, but it is incomplete, bringing on MacZura to punt into a strong wind...A fumble by Holy Cross and Jeremiah Kayal recovery gives GU the ball back on the GU49...Roughing the passer on Holy Cross brings new life and field position for the GU offense. 1st and 10 at the HC36...Darby in at QB picks up about 5 yards on the draw...Darby's pass over the middle intended for Waizenegger is batted down by Cav Koch, otherwise that could've been 6 more points for GU...Campanella gets the ball down to the 20 yard line to bring up 3rd and 5...Darby's pass incomplete to Campanella, as Weiss is on for the 37 yard field goal attempt. Weiss makes what might have been the most difficult field goal of his life. 37 yards into heavy wind and snow. GREAT HOLD by Jeff Burke. The job he did there has to be recognized !

On the ensuing kick-off GU pops the ball loose and Weiss falls on the fumble to take the ball back at their own 48.

GU takes a shot down field, but Kempf overthrows Ryan on the last play from scrimmage of the half.

HALFTIME: The snow is starting to stick on the field, but the Holy Cross marching band is still doing there thing. Much respect.

3RD QUARTER
Georgetown 1st and 10 at own 45
Jeremy Moore a great return as the yard markers and hash marks are becoming nearly impossible to see from the pressbox...Kempf picks up 4 yards on a keeper. Campanella looks to have gotten across midfield for a pick up of 3 or 4...Campanella picks up the remainder for a 1st down...Kempf's pass to Davis falls just out of reach to bring up 2nd and 10...Campanella picks up about six on 2nd...Campanella picks up about 3 to bring up 4th and inches...GU will go for it, as Campanella finds a nice hold in the middle of the line to pick up a first down and more to the 30...Another 3 for Campanella...Two GU incompletions bring up 4th and 7 as they will go for it again, as kicking a field goal at this point seems impossible. Good morning and welcome to the blog!

It's a little before 11:30 a.m. and Chuck Timanus, the radio voice of Georgetown football, and myself are in the pressbox at Greene Stadium on a sunny, though windy day. In both end zones they have those crazy wind puppets (not sure what they're really called) that appear to be moving around energetically.

The team is on the field for warm-ups, as days like these are always interesting ones for kickers and punters. Though at the moment Brett Weiss (the reigning Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week) and punter Matt MacZura do not appear to be having any problems.

Today Georgetown will resume its young intra-city rivalry with Howard, as the teams are meeting for the first time since 2009 and GU is making its first trip to Howard since 2008. The teams are currently tied, 1-1 all-time with today, as Coach Kelly mentioned earlier in the week being "the rubber match."

Both teams have played well, with the Bison winning its last two, including an impressive 29-point fourth quarter comeback to stun Florida A&M last Saturday. It was Howard's second consecutive win, having defeated Savannah State on that day. Against Savannah State, Howard freshman QB Greg McGhee threw for three touchdowns and ran for another to earn MEAC Rookie of the Week.

Georgetown is coming off of it's own 24-10 victory over Wagner, where the defense held the Seahawks to 77 rushing yards, half its season-average, while Max Waizenegger's 71-yard touchdown reception from Isaiah Kempf put the game away late. Safety David Quintero picked off a late pass to seal the game...

HALFTIME...
One of the most interesting moments I've seen in sports. The band from Gwynn Park High School played a wonderful halftime show, but would not yield to Howard who was trying to retake the field. Time just ran out on halftime and Howard is just getting an opportunity to get to their sideline. Gwynn Park still has members of its band on the field.

3RD QUARTER
On the kick-off Dalen Claytor found a nice crease but had the ball popped loose to give the ball to Howard at the GU 40.
HOWARD 1st and 10 GU41 (14:55)
McGhee's pass sails high on first down. Terrance Lefall picks up about 12 yards down to the GU29. LeFall picks up another first down as Howard looks energized to start the half. Illegal procedure on Howard moves the ball back to the 14...Schaetzke breaks up another pass to bring up another field goal attempt for Howard's Parker Munoz, who connects from about 25.

Kempf picks up 2 on the keeper on first down...Campanella picks up about four yards...Kempf makes a GREAT pitch to Claytor who found some room down the sideline for 13 yards. Dalen Claytor is extremely dangerous down the sideline. Just as I say that Campanella picks up about 8 yards up the middle...Kempf is chased from the pocket and out of bounds to bring up 4th and 2 and a punt...GREAT PUNT by Matt MacZura and an even better job by the coverage unit as Nick Alfieri downs the ball at the one yard line.

LeFall falls forward for about two yards and then on the next play a holding penalty will put the ball at the 4 after what looked like a nice Howard gain...Richardson makes a huge stop to bring up 3rd and 6. McGhee makes a great pass under pressure to find Brandon Flanagan and then a facemask on GU that will move the ball to the 30 yard line...Jayah Kaisamba comes up to make the tackle for loss to bring up 2nd and 11...Howard picks up another first down on a pass to B. Drayton...HUGE PLAY FOR THE HOYAS, McGhee can't handle the high snap and Dan Lenihan comes up with the fumble to give the ball back to GU.

Brandon Durham picks up seven yards on the first carry of the drive... Claytor picks up the first down for GU on a 3 yard pick up...Darby into the game on a 2nd and 9...Chance Logan picks up four on 2nd down to bring on 3rd and 5...Darby picks up four, so GU will attempt the 36 yard field goal. The kick is wide right.

LeFall has had some success running in the second half, picking up nine yards on two carries , but the Hoyas defense won't break as they stuff him for a loss of one to bring on fourth down...

Brett Weiss absolutely crushed the kickoff out of the back of the end zone to give Howard the ball at its own 20.

Flanagan with a 12 yard reception on first down to bring on another first down...Two incomplete passes bring up 3rd and 10, where McGhee finds Willie Carter for about five yards...The punt team is back on for the Bison.

Brandon Durham picks up one on the first carry of the series. Kempf gets flushed from the pocket and picks up about 13 yard with a great down field block from Jamal Davis...Campanella picks up six yards to the 41...Campanella carries again, this time for about three as the clock continues to run. Campanella gets hit hard in the backfield for a loss of two, as MacZura will be on to punt.

MacZura's punt was initially fumbled by B. Drayton, as he's wrapped up by Daniel Wright and a host of other Hoyas at the 12 yard line.

GEORGETOWN FOOTBALL GAMEDAY LIVE BLOG: HOYAS LOOK FOR REDEMPTION AT WAGNER

Good morning and welcome to the blog!

We're in Staten Island, N.Y., home of the Wu Tang Clan and the Wagner College Seahawks, today's opponent. The trip is Georgetown's first to Wagner College Stadium since 2000.

Today's game will be just the third meeting in program history, with the Hoyas and Seahawks splitting the pair of previous games. Last year's game was a heartbreaker for the Hoyas, as Wagner placekicker made a career-long 54 yard field goal to send the game to overtime, where Wagner won in two overtimes, 22-16.

Offensively this has been a much improved team than it was a year ago. The Hoyas have already scored 151 points through five games and have featured one of the most explosive offenses in the Patriot League. They also have the third best red zone offense in the nation converting on 18-of-19 trips inside their opponents 20 yard line.

On defense, junior linebacker Robert McCabe continues to impress. Coming into today's game, McCabe is leading the Patriot League, averaging over 10 tackles per game. Sophomore outside linebacker Dustin Wharton is also among the league's top five players in that category. It would be difficult to talk about defense without mentioning senior defensive end Andrew Schaetzke. Schaetzke is tied for the league lead with 5.5 sacks and second with 9.5 tackles for loss, despite often facing double and triple teams this season. That is expected continue.

The weather today could not be anymore different than the weather last weekend in Lewisburg, Pa. Right now in Staten Island, it's 64 degrees, not a cloud in the sky and a nice breeze that we can feel with the windows in the pressbox just opening up. Right now, we're watching both teams warm up with a nice view of the Verrazano Bridge. Interestingly the pre-game music is of the unedited variety, which is always a jolt for people who work a lot of events, where cleanliness of lyrics is next to Godliness.

We're a little over an hour away from kick-off here at Christy Mathewson Memorial Stadium in rainy Lewisburg, Pa. It's a chilly, windy 54 degrees, the kind of Pennsylvania day where you round up the guys in the neighborhood for some tackle football at the park. Luckily, we're about to see just that.

Today's game with Bucknell has built up a little bit of hype around the Patriot League, with the Hoyas and Bison both entering today with 3-1 records. Not so bad for two teams picked to finish in the cellar prior to the season. The matchup will feature this past week's Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week (GU QB Scott Darby) and Defensive Player of the Week, Bucknell's defensive end Josh Eden. Eden, who had an interception return for a TD, a safety and a fumble recovery in last week's win against Princeton. Darby, as you may remember accounted for five touchdowns and had the best completion percentage in GU history (81.8 percent).

PATRIOT LEAGUE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR PREVIEW... Bucknell's Eden and Andrew Schaetzke are both among the top defensive players in the league. Schaetzke leads the PL in sacks and tackles for loss, while Eden is fourth in sacks and fifth in tackles for loss.

GEORGETOWN 1st and 10 at the GU 35...So far a steady dose of Nick Campanella. Though on a 4th and short the Hoyas are stuffed giving the ball back to Bucknell at their own 40.

BUCKNELL 1st and 10 at the 40...Schaetzke gets good pressure on Brandon Wesley, though as Wesley was being wrapped up he threw the ball to the ground for the incompletion. On 2nd and 10 GU again stuffs the run before Dan Lenihan gets the big sack to bring up 4th and 16. They'll punt to Kevin Macari

GEORGETOWN 1st and 10 at their own 42...After a bad punt Georgetown takes over in good field position...Bucknell's pass rush has been great so far, sacking Darby on the first play. Darby is flushed out of the pocket on third down and knocked down as the Hoyas are again forced to punt.

BUCKNELL at BUCKNELL 35 (5:00)...Wesley and the Bison have put together a nice drive so far, as Gabe Swara and Tyler Smith each have gains of more than 10 yards...Wesley gets a short rush inside the Hoyas 20 now with under 1:15 left in the first quarter...Smith has done a great job on this drive dodging or breaking the first tackle and picking up extra yards. He has done it again to get the ball to the 10 yard line as time runs out on the first quarter.

2ND QUARTER
BUCKNELL at the GU10: Two plays in and Tyler Smith has given Bucknell a 14-0 lead.

GU Drive starts at GU29 (14:06): Isaiah Kempf now in at QB...On the first play an option to Chance Logan picks up about 5 on the play...Kempf scrambles out on third down after a GU loss, and finds Tucker Stafford on a nice gain, but not nice enough for a first down. Matt MacZura back on to punt for the Hoyas from their own 35. An illegal procedure call on GU moves it back to the 30...Bucknell after the punt will get the ball at their own 38.

BUCKNELL starts at BU38 (12:03)...Wesley scrambles on first down for five before Grasso brings him down...Jeremiah Young breaks a tackle and takes it to the 50 for a first down...Wesley completes a pass to Frank DeNick at the GU36...Wesley puts a throw right on the money to DeNick for a 36 yard touchdown pass to put Bucknell in front 21-0 after the extra point.

HUGE KICK RETURN from Dalen Claytor. Claytor returned the ball to the Bucknell 41 yard line, though a sideline interference call on GU puts the ball at the Bucknell 46.
GU Starts at the BU46 (10:03) ...Kempf first pass to Claytor for six yards. On 2nd and 4 they go the same play, which is stopped for a loss...Max Waizenegger makes a reception for close to 8 yards for a GU first down...1st and 10 (8:44)...Brandon Durham picks up three on his first carry...On 3rd and 7 Kempf's pass to Davis is incomplete to bring MacZura back out to punt. MacZura's punt is fair caught at the BU13.

Since the last update Bucknell extended its lead to 28-0 on a 41 yard touchdown pass from Brandon Wesley to Victor Walker.

On the ensuing drive Georgetown's offense came to life as Kempf completed a 17 yard pass to Patrick Ryan and then three consecutive passes to Jamal Davis, including a 19 yard touchdown catch to make the score.

3RD QUARTER
BUCKNELL DRIVE STARTS at the BU23
ANDREW SCHAETZKE strips the ball from Wesley to give the Hoyas the ball at the BU15.

GU BALL at the BU15...A nice pass to Davis gets the ball to the BU9 yard line, but Brett Weiss will kick a 19 yard field goal to make the score BUCKNELL 28, GEORGETOWN 10.

BUCKNELL Drive to start at the BU37 (8:04): The Georgetown defense has looked very good so far in the second half as they will go three and out...Bucknell's punt will be downed at the GU1 yard line. Tough field position for the Hoyas.

GEORGETOWN DRIVE at the GU1 (5:54): GU pinned at their own 1 yard line on 3rd down when Kempf found Kevin Macari out to the 12 for a 1st down. Kempf finds Macari again out to the 31 yard line as the Hoyas offense seems to have gained some momentum...Kempf and the Hoyas are now moving, finding Claytor and Waizenegger on consecutive catches for a first down out near midfield, as the clock continues to wind down in the 3rd Quarter...Kempf misses on three straight though as GU will punt, though from the much safer 47 yard line.

4TH QUARTER
BUCKNELL at the BU45.
Just 10 seconds into the quarter Frank DeNick makes a 55 yard touchdown reception from Wesley to take some of the wind out of the Hoyas tires. BUCKNELL 35, GEORGETOWN 18.

Dalen Claytor with another explosive kick-off return gets out to the GU46 to start the drive.
GU at the GU46: Kempf looks for Burke on the first two passes, but the first falls incomplete and the second was tipped at the line. Furlough was the intended receiver on 3rd and 10, but could not bring the pass back in bounds as MacZura will be back on to punt.

BUCKNELL Drive (12:30): Andrew Schaetzke has a huge sack and David Quintero makes a big 3rd down tackle to stop Bucknell. Gutokowski punts out of the back of the end zone, as the Hoyas will take over at the 20.

GEORGETOWN DRIVE (11:08): Kempf throws down field but is intercepted by Sean Rafferty to give Bucknell the ball back at the BU49.

(7:58) Georgetown driving again, as Kempf finds Davis who gets enough yardage for the first down. Davis now has 6 catches for 70 yards, leading all Hoya receivers...Kempf escapes the rush and finds Patrick Ryan...Jamal Davis again picks up about 10 and again for about 12 to move the ball across midfield. Though the Hoyas have been stalled again. On a 4th and inches the Hoyas are called for an illegal procedure to move the ball back 5 yards. On 4th and 5 the pass to Kevin Macari is just a few inches short as Bucknell will get the ball back with a chance to run the clock down.

Welcome to the Georgetown Football Game Day Live Blog!

We are a little over an hour away from game time here at Tenney Stadium on the campus of Marist. It's a beautiful day here for football, though a little bit muggy. Currently it's a 75 degrees and despite the forecast for rain, the sun is starting to peek through the clouds, just a bit.

Prior to leaving our digs at the Clarion the offense and defense took separate ends of the parking lot and went through its pre-game walk-through. I can only imagine what the other hotel guests were thinking if they looked out of their windows at around 10:30 a.m.

Anyway, we are now all set up in the press box. I'm sitting up here next to Chuck Timanus, the voice of the Hoyas. Make sure if you are reading this that you are also tuning into the free audio broadcast on GUHoyas.com today!

The press box here at Marist is not like any other that I have seen in my travels with Georgetown football. First, it's open-air which is nice and not rare. But the large, luxury suite-like areas set up for VIP's, is very different. Chuck and I are less then screen pass-distance away from Marist fans who are enjoying wine, beer and finger sandwiches. It will be interesting to see how that crowd progresses through the game.

On to football...Scott Darby will be starting at quarterback today. Isaiah Kempf will sit out after taking a big hit last week against Yale. Darby was under center for the Hoyas win against Marist in the Hoyas, 14-7 win over the Red Foxes last season.

HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE: These two teams, while not natural rivals, have played some very close games, with six of the last seven being decided by a touchdown or less and two going into overtime. Each team has done a good job of defending its home field. Georgetown has not won in Poughkeepsie since 1999.

FIRST QUARTER:
11:09: Scott Darby finds Max Waizenegger down the middle of the field on a 3rd down for a 39 yard touchdown. Weiss kicks the extra point to put GU in front 7-0.

8:15: Jeremy Moore on a corner blitz knocks the ball out of Marist QB Tommy Reilly's hands. Andrew Maliska comes up with the fumble recovery to give the Hoyas the ball at the Marist 43.

6:30 On a fourth down Nick Campanella breaks off an 8 yard run to keep the Hoyas drive alive. Now at 5:10 another fourth down conversion for Nick Campanella. The offensive line is doing a tremendous job of getting some push up front.

0:58: Scott Darby takes a high snap then hits a hole on the right side of the line and goes 13 yards for a Georgetown touchdown. Weiss hits the point after and Georgetown is now in front 14-0.

0:08: Marist's Reilly completes a long pass down the right sideline to Armani Martin to give the Red Foxes its first trip into Georgetown territory.

2ND QUARTER

14:09: Ryan Dinnebeil is finding some success on the ground with two carries to get the ball to the GU 2 yard line...Dinnebeil breaks a tackle inside and bounces outside the and finds his way into the end zone. The extra point is good and GU will now have to deal with the fallout from a roughing the kicker call on the ensuing kick-off.

12:12: Brandon Durham just turned a broken play into a 67 yard touchdown run, the longest Hoyas TD run since J. Sims against Davidson in 2003. Durham broke a gang of tackles going left, reversed right, got a great block and then was off to the races. Brett Weiss made the point after and GU is now leading 21-7...

8:00: On a third and short Andrew Schaetzke got some pressure in the backfield forcing Tommy Reilly to roll right. Reilly threw into a crowd and GU's Robert McCabe came up with the interception to give the Hoyas the ball back at the Marist 40.

2:00 MARIST: Tommy Reilly has done a great job of eluding the Hoyas rush, and dumping the ball off to running backs. Reilly just avoided another Schaetzke rush and made a short pass to the 50 yard line...Just as I began typing that Schaetzke comes up with his first sack of the game, knocking Marist back to their own 46...Wayne Heimuli came up and made a big hit to jar the ball loose from a receiver, but a personal foul called on Heimuli gives Marist the ball at the GU 39 with 58 seconds left.

0:58 Holding call on Marist pushes the ball back to the GU 49 yard line 1st and 20 for Marist with 58 seconds...Reilly finds Armani Martin at the GU 32 to bring up 2nd and 3...Marist calls timeout...Xander Carpousis, Andrew Maliska and Andrew Schaetzke were all in the backfield as Reilly has to get rid of the ball to avoid a sack... 12:18: MARIST 1st and 10 GU45: A kick out of bounds and personal foul give Marist great field position. Though Marist can't get the offense going, goes for it on fourth and the Reilly incompletion gives it back to GU in good field position.

10:12 GEORGETOWN 1st and 10 at MARIST 40: Campanella picks up about seven yards on the first carry, but Darby throws an interception down the left side of the field as Marist will take over from their own 22.

9:45 MARIST 1st and 10 MARIST 22: Reilly pass for 75 yards to Armani Martin. Martin and Heimuli went up with the jump ball, Martin came down with it and then ran the rest of the way for a touchdown to cut the lead to 14. GEORGETOWN 35 - MARIST 21.

8:45: GEORGETOWN 1st and 10 GU30: Scott Darby on 3rd and 8 picks up just eight yards to keep the chains moving. The Hoyas use motion twice to get Marist to jump off sides, the second time helping them convert a 3rd and short. At 4:14 Scott Darby sees the pressures and dumps off to Dalen Claytor who picks up 20+ yards for another GU first down to the Marist 20.

GREAT CATCH!! At 2:58 Scott Darby finds Jeremiah Kayal on a 19 yard TD pass that sees Kayal hold on after getting hit! Georgetown now leads 42-21 after the extra point. This is the first time since 2003 that GU has had two 40 point games in the same season.

14:55: Reilly continues to move the ball this time finding Kevin Fitzpatrick for a 1st down down to the nine yard line...Dinnebeil picks up four on a tough run down to the five yard line...McCabe almost comes up with his second interception on on second down, then Jeremy Moore breaks up a pass in the end zone on third to bring up 4th and 5 for Marist...Reilly finds Kevin Fitzpatrick in the back of the end zone to bring Marist back within two touchdowns. 13:39 GEORGETOWN 1st and 10 at GU20: Nick Campanella, after a Marist offsides call, runs tough for 17 yards. A Marist player shoves Campanella after the run to draw another 15 yards. GU ball at the Marist 44...GU will be forced to punt for the first time today. MacZura lined up at the GU48. MacZura pins Marist at the 5 yard line.

Things are happening quickly. On the first play of Marist's drive, Reilly's pass was tipped by Jeremy Moore and intercepted by Wayne Heimuli, his second INT of the season, and returned it to the Marist 22.

10:39 GEORGETOWN: 1st and 10 MARIST22: Scott Darby throws a beautiful ball up to Kevin Macari who battled with the CB and came down with his third touchdown reception of the season. Macari is quickly becoming a reliable target on the outside. GU 49 - Marist 28.

8:40: MARIST: Georgetown keeps Marist from doing much offensive, as Andrew Schaetzke comes up with his second sack of the day to force a Red Foxes punt.

8:00 GEORGETOWN 1st and 10 MARIST 49: GU moving the ball on the ground with Brandon Durham and Nick Campanella. Durham picked up 20 yards on two carries to keep the chains moving for GU. Brett Weiss nails a 36 yard field goal to put GU in front 52-28. The first time GU has eclipsed 50-points since 1998 when they defeated St. Peter's 54-7.

4:09 MARIST 1st and 10 MARIST 27: Peter Daibes and Alec May coming up big on the drive, each getting into the backfield. Andrew Schaetzke just misses another sack as Reilly forced to throw the ball out of bounds to bring up fourth down. Macari is back to receive for GU.

2:28 GEORGETOWN 1st and 10 GU 13: Aaron Aiken in again at QB as they will be content to hand off to Chance Logan and run the clock down.

The clock runs down as Georgetown will walk away from Poughkeepsie with a victory for the first time since 1999.

Georgetown Football Practice Begins at Multi-Sport Field: Thoughts From First Two Days

Excitement has surrounded the first two days of football practice at Multi-Sport Field, as the Hoyas have begun preparation for its season-opener against Davidson on Saturday, September 3.

The team has yet to strap on the pads and they will not have their first double session until Saturday, August 13, but the offense is at a higher level of understanding and execution on the offensive side under second year offensive coordinator David Patenaude at the same point compared to last year. On defense, the team returns nine starters, including everyone in a secondary that ranked among the leaders in NCAA Division I FCS in interceptions.

Several talented linebackers, including Robert McCabe, Jeremy Grasso, Nate Zimmel and Shanon Adams will compete to replace Nick Parrish and Patrick O'Donnell at inside linebacker. McCabe and Grasso have each started at outside linebacker through their careers.

On the offensive line, the Hoyas are healthy, as they will look to replace Dan Semler, Rob Bates and Erik Antico. While it is early in camp, the one thing that stands out on the offensive line is the size, with nine players tipping the scales at over 300 lbs.

One of the more interesting match-ups to watch on day two of practice was junior cornerback Jeremy Moore and wide receiver Kenny Furlough. Moore, a second team All Patriot League performer in 2010 and a preseason first teamer for 2011 was matched up with Furlough, who has caught everything thrown his way early on. Furlough, who now measures at 6-4, 225 lbs. is looking to have a breakout season and Moore, who finished near the top of the league in passes defended, is looking to establish himself among the elite corners in Division I FCS.

Scott Darby and Isaiah Kempf continue to provide the coaching staff with two experienced quarterbacks who have shown the ability to be successful. Both quarterbacks, along with Aaron Aiken have shown improvement, while Steve Skon has thrown the ball well during late practice all freshmen seven-on-seven sessions.

Following practice on Tuesday, Head Coach Kevin Kelly, along with captains Jeremiah Kayal and Wayne Heimuli took some time to speak with media, commenting on camp. Here are the best of their comments:

On the beginning of camp...

I'm really proud of the guys. Everyone has come in here ready to go this season, everyone is strapped up and ready to go.

On the offenses evolution from last season...

First year coming in it was a whole new offensive system under Coach Patenaude, which brought in a different element. The first year, last year was a different feel. This year we're a step ahead of the game, last year at this time we were still learning the formations and the basic plays, but now we're able to dive in and understand the defensive coverages and how to run our routes against certain coverages.

On wearing the No. 35 jersey...

I've gotten to know some of the No. 35's, especially Nick Parrish. He was here since I stepped on campus and he was one of the big guys that I looked up to. He was always on time, always prepared, always had everything ready and took coaching well. He was just one of the guys that I looked up to and hopefully I can imitate.

On replacing two lost starters...

Losing [Nick Parrish and Patrick O'Donnell] is one of those things that we have to get over. We can't look at the past, we have to move forward and look at the guys we have. It's not who we lost it's who we brought back and now we have to take that step forward, because it's a new team and a new year.

Wayne being award the No. 35 jersey says it all, right there. Everything he does, he does in first class manner. He works hard, the players all respect him and I don't think it was any surprise that he got the No. 35 jersey and he's also an excellent football player, which is icing on the cake. With Jeremiah, the guys really respect what he does for us. He's been a big special teams performer, he's done a lot of things on offense for us, and you talk about class human beings, his name comes to mind right away.

In the event that you don't watch as much track & field on television as I do, you may have missed out on the fact that one Andrew Bumbalough, former Hoya seven-time All-American who earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees from Georgetown, in a Nike track & field commercial. Needless to say, it is pretty awesome to be running for Nike, but it's gotta be even cooler to be a part of their latest commercial. Check it out below.

The first time I saw this video was during the USA Track & Field Championships on ESPN - funnily enough, while I was waiting to watch Bumbi in the 5K a little after the midnight hour - and I initially thought that the commercial was awesome, but around the 56 second mark, I realized that this may be the most amazing commercial ever if it involved a former Hoya.

With a little thing I like to call the Google machine, I found the commercial on YouTube and paused it at 56 seconds to confirm my suspicions that it was in fact seven-time All-American and NCAA Runner Up in the indoor 3K Andrew Bumbalough rocking his old school Brentwood gear (Bumbi attended Brentwood Academy.)

This made me want to go out and do one-handed pushups or something, but clearly I just went to bed and did a Nike Training Club workout (P.S. Greatest Free iPhone App Award goes to Nike Training Club - check it out, it's spectacular!) with my coworker and went to a bbq festival.

Congrats to Bumbi on all he is doing beyond his days on the Hilltop and with Nike.

Georgetown Football's Preparation For the Field Matched by Work in the Community

Members of the Georgetown football team have been putting in the work to get better on the field throughout the summer. I spoke with RB Chance Logan last week, who has been training with an NFL-playing relative during the lockout, as he prepares for the 2011 season. It is hard to walk through Yates Field House without seeing at least two guys putting in the time to help the Hoyas reach that next level. Kenny Furlough stopped through the office a week or so ago to update his roster bio and was excited for this coming season.

"Wednesday's Child" - WATCH VIDEO

Very early in the summer Head Coach Kevin Kelly, and rising seniors Wayne Heimuli and Andrew Schaetzke woke up early to spend time with a young boy T.J. for part of NBC Washington's "Wednesday's Child" program. The above video is only a little over two minutes long, but the guys spent several hours playing catch and talking with a child whose dreams of playing football likely hit home with the two Hoya stars. Heimuli arrived first with a gift (the gloves you see T.J. wearing in the video) and Coach Kelly and Schaetzke provided other gifts and encouragement. Coach Kelly even invited T.J. to participate in one of the Hoyas summer camps and for a chance to comeback and visit with the team during the 2011 season.

"Janne Kouri and Next Step Fitness"

Former Hoya defensive tackle Janne Kouri (C'97), who was featured on ABC News in back in 2009 for overcoming his own spinal injury and trying to help others with his program "Next Step Fitness" (nextstepfitness.org), was announced as a finalist in Toyota's 100 Cars for Good program, a program that awards deserving non-profit organizations.

Recently, the Today Show featured former Hoya Chris Paulus, who has been working with wounded combat veterans to help them compete in road races. Paulus has given his time in several roles to help show gratitude for all that these combat veterans have given to the United States.

Each season, since joining the Patriot League in 2001, Georgetown and Lafayette square off on the field. Though for the last few seasons Georgetown football coaches have volunteered time to assist at Lauren's First and Goal Football Camp to raise money for pediatric brain tumor research. A few weeks ago Defensive Coordinator Rob Sgarlata, Offensive Coordinator Dave Patenaude and offensive line assistant Alex Kolt traveled to Easton, Pa to help tutor a camp record 1,800 high school student-athletes, which helped raise $80,000 toward the cause.

With over a month left until the football team returns to the Hilltop current players and alumni continue to do things for the betterment of their community. I will look to post more of those instances throughout the summer here on the GUHoyas Athletic Blog.

We're just about to start heat two of the women's 4x400. The Hoyas are in top three. A very fast first heat looks like it may take an automatic time for the Blue & Gray to secure a spot in Des Moines.

As the men's 5K second heat goes on, I'm going to take this moment to congratulate two great performers and I apologize to Hoya readers that I'm not going to talk about members of the Blue & Gray. This is probably a rare place to acknowledge these two athletes, but it must be said that Villanova's Sheila Reid had an outstanding team performance today in the women's 5k as she sacrificed a chance at first place as she did not turn in a full kick but rather made sure that teammate Bogdana Mimic also qualified for Des Moines. The second accolade goes to Liberty's Sam Chelanga. I've watched this student-athlete for years and he's simply a machine. The two-time cross country national champion is unreal in distance events and watching him has been my pleasure. He is so consistently on in the distance events, it is quite amazing.

Andrew Springer officially ran a 14:42.44 to finish 16th in his heat.

Andrew had a tough time as the field hit their stride and fell out of the lead pack with about four laps to go. As he began to separate, it was hard as he was running on his own for a while. I missed his time on the board but will report it as soon as I know it.

With an outstanding time of 15:55.50, Emily Infeld just won her heat of the women's 5,000 and is going to Des Moines for the NCAA Championships! Infeld was in the lead pack for the entire time and on the bell took over first place and split 66 over the final 400 for the win. Congratulations Emily!

The count is up to four! Next up to watch is Chris Kinney in the men's 110 hurdles. Go Hoyas!

Madeline Chambers finishes sixth with a time of 4:20 flat. The second heat seemed to be the faster of the two so she should get in on time. I'll let you know as soon as they are official!

I admit it, I was an absentee blogger for a while there. If you were in the conditions I was in, you would have been too. It's about time for me to get going since I've been here for more than seven hours now. It's been a long and exciting day of GU track & field and we still have two more full days here in Bloomington! 8:15 p.m. UPDATE!
Brian Hencke automatically qualifies for tomorrow's men's 800 quarterfinals with a time of 1:51.79. Congratulations to Brian!

7:53 p.m. UPDATE!
Chelsea Cox run a 2:07.87 to win her heat and automatically qualify for tomorrow's 800 quarterfinals.

7:30 p.m. UPDATE!
How do I know I'm at a track meet? We're in a delay, that's how. The weather here has been slightly unkind and the rain messed with the starting / timing system leaving us with at least a 15-minute delay. I'm confident in the ability to make up the gap but we'll see how it pans out.

7 p.m. UPDATE!

The most interesting thing I've heard since I last blogged: a group of four track fans talking about their fantasy track & field draft and rooting on races based on their draft picks. It was impressive and also one of the most outlandish things I've ever heard. Who would have thought to make a fantasy draft out of the NCAA Track & Field East Prelims. I applaud these four fans ... and also welcome the notion that somehow the nerdiest moment of the day did not happen on pressrow, but in the stands rather.

5:12 p.m. UPDATE!

Alright, we'll have a little break from the blog for a bit as the next event for the Hoyas is at 7:30 p.m., with the women's 800 when Chelsea Cox and Becca DeLoache compete. Following that at 8 p.m., the Hoyas will put Brian Hencke, Billy Ledder, Dan Leyh and Theon O'Connor in the men's 800. We'll end the night in true Georgetown fashion with both the men and the women competing in the 10K - Emily Jones, an All-American, in the women's field and T.C. Lumbar in the men's field.

4:55 p.m. UPDATE!

Madeline Chambers automatically qualifies for the women's 1,500 quarterfinals on ~~Sunday~~ Saturday! That's all four Hoyas in the quarterfinals!

4:41 p.m. UPDATE!

Renee Tomlin edges out Tennessee and wins her heat - I'll have times when I get official word. All three Hoyas have made it to ~~Sunday's~~ Saturday's quarterfinal and we await Maddy Chambers competing in the fourth heat.

4:33 p.m. UPDATE!
Rachel Schneider and Lauren Borduin automatically qualify for ~~Sunday's~~ Saturday's quarterfinals in the women's 1,500. Still another two Hoyas to watch out for in three heats - look out for Renee Tomlin in the second heat and Madeline Chambers in the fourth heat! Top five in each heat qualify for Sunday's quarterfinal plus the four next fastest times.

4:25 p.m. UPDATE!

So, there's a strong BIG EAST presence here, and when I say that, I am clearly blogging in jest. I have been spending most of my time with fellow BE SID David Berman though. We're keeping the BE side of press row strong and I know the Louisville SID is somewhere nearby as well. The setup here is pretty conducive for covering a track event but I will give props where they are due, Villanova did a splendid job at hosting BIG EAST Championships a couple weeks ago. Next event on deck is the women's 1,500 - get excited, Hoyas!

4:18 p.m. UPDATE!

While we wait for the remaining heats of the 400-meter hurdles and the women's 1,500-meter run that features four Hoyas in Renee Tomlin, Madeline Chambers, Rachel Schneider and Lauren Borduin, I'll give you the quick update of Bloomington thus far. First off, here are two photos for you - the first of an overhead of the track and the second of four cool looking pillars that I know nothing about. I apologize to readers if these are significant but I honestly don't know what they are but I do think they are cool.

Moving on, I have now officially survived my first tornado. I don't know how close the tornado actually was lasts night but there were a number of "town warning sirens" that went off last night. That's what I'm calling it, at least. It sounded like a steam whistle - think the really loud noise that was the "recurring gag" in My Cousin Vinny. Anyway, that went off several times yesterday and then there was a torrential downpour with the loudest thunder I've ever heard and there was a point when I was escorted from one side of the restaurant to the basement that was away from windows because the tornado had touched down not too far away. So, I consider myself now a "tornado survivor." These are just not things I typically deal with in the friendly confines of McDonough Arena or really anything within the Capital Beltway for that matter. It's definitely different out here in Indiana!

London Finley ran in the first event of the day, the women's 400-meter hurdles. She narrowly missed out on Friday's quarterfinal with a time of 1:00.55. Next up on the docket is the men's 400-meter hurdles with Toby Ulm competing. The top three from each heat automatically qualify with the next six overall times getting in as well.

Renee Tomlin is now a six-time BIG EAST Champion after her win in the women's 800. She has won the indoor 1,000 as well as two indoor 4x800 and two outdoor 4x800. Congratulations to Renee! Happening on the track since then - London Finley just took second in the women's 400-meter hurdles!

Renee Tomlin wins the women's 800 with a time of 2:05.42 , a new record at the Jumbo Elliott Track at Villanova Stadium! Congratulations to Renee who was the first of the trio of Hoyas to cross the finish line as Chelsea Cox finished second (2:06.49) and Becca DeLoache finished eighth (2:11.02)!

Chris Kinney takes second place in the men's 110-meter high hurdles with a season-best time of 13.87! Way to go, Chris!

Congrats to our men's 4x1 foursome of Biyerem Okengwu, Christian Tobias, Sean Suber and Kadeem Hunter! Their time of 41.33 is the best the Hoyas have run this season! Official results from the women's 1,500: Emily Infeld in second (4:25.00), Lauren Borduin in fourth (4:26.90), Madeline Chambers in fifth (4:27.14) and Rachel Schneider in seventh (4:27.58). The women's 1,500 was a pretty conservative race through the first 1,100 meters, bell lap proved to be a much quicker split and ended with an all-out sprint between Sheila Reid and Emily Infeld - very similar to how this year's NCAA Cross Country Championship ended.

Emily Infeld takes second in the women's 1,500 behind Villanova's Sheila Reid. The two have battled all year against each other and unfortunately today, Sheila had the edge as she was competing on her home track.

Amanda Kimbers runs a 23.65 to take first in the first heat of the women's 200! She automatically qualifies for tomorrow's finals.

Toby Ulm wins the first heat of the men's 400-meter hurdles outright. Way to go, Toby! Two heats without Hoyas and then we're on to the 200 trials. That's when it starts to get real around here as it will be the final trials event and everything from that point on counts for points!

Sorry - I've been running around Villanova Stadium so I have not been able to keep you up to date on everything. Renee Tomlin and Chelsea Cox both qualified automatically for tomorrow's women's 800 final. Renee ran a 2:11.26 with Chelsea running a 2:07.69. Becca DeLoache qualified on time with a 2:08.32 in heat two.

3:11 p.m. UPDATE!

I will be the first to admit that there are certainly times when there are "lulls" during a track meet. It is only natural as you go from event to event. There is set up for each event and making sure everyone is lined up properly. Anyway, when lulls happen - it is important to keep yourself occupied. I used my free time to keep up with Old Hat Creative's annual May charity event. Last year was "HuMAYliation" ... this year is "MAY-HAM"

It is obviously enjoyable (as everything they do tends to be ... you can just check our publications to know that.) I highly recommend watching the video. And the use of the music from Last of the Mohicans is EXTREMELY enjoyable!

Amanda Kimbers takes second in her prelim with a time of 11.62. That is one-hundredth of a second off her school record set one year ago at the BIG EAST Championships!

Emily Menges and Deidra Sanders narrowly miss the cut for tomorrow's finals as they finish with times of 55.40 and 55.33, respectively. Tough heats for the duo.

2:30 p.m. UPDATE!

Emily Menges takes third in her heat of the men's 400-meter dash with a time of 55.40. In the men's 110 hurdles, Chris Kinney officially ran a 13.95 to automatically qualify while Biyerem Okengwu ran a 14.40 in his heat to qualify on time.

That was a rough heat of the men's 110 hurdles ... while discussing with the Louisville SID, we questioned if that was the most hurdles to go down in a single heat this season. The BIG EAST thought we were joking when we asked that ... I'm pretty sure we were only half joking.

Chris Kinney's runs an unofficial 13.95, if this time ends up being right - it will be his season best. Chris is coming back from injury this season and looks like he is ready to take on the postseason with a vengeance!

So, I'm definitely someone who bleeds Hoya Blue but it is no secret in our office that my heart beats for a certain head coach of Villanova basketball. And right now, while some may say that I'm in "Villanova, Pa." or just outside of Philadelphia (for the second-straight weekend) ... I consider myself in JayWrightvillle, USA right now.

Anyway, first event on slate for us is the women's 1,500-meter trials. We've got four Hoyas in this event with Lauren Borduin, six-time All-American Emily Infeld, two-time All-American Rachel Schneider and All-American Madeline Chambers. Event starts at 1:30 p.m.!

Hello Hoya fans!

I'm typing from my seat in the pressbox at Yurcak Field on what is possibly the nicest night of the year. It's about 65 degrees, slight breeze and not a cloud in the sky. Somewhat shocking that we had to go to New Jersey for the nicest climate during the lacrosse season.

Interestingly enough there is a decent-sized group of youth lacrosse players who have become huge Georgetown fans for the evening. Right now they are standing in the front of the stands behind the Hoyas bench cheering on the guys through warm ups. Most interestingly, the loudest of our new Georgetown fans is wearing a Syracuse jersey and shorts. I'm wishing I traveled with some spare GU t-shirts for that poor kid. I blame his parents.

Tonight's game is a great opportunity for Georgetown to snap out of a three-game losing streak. The Hoyas have never lost to Rutgers in 13 previous games and GU would need this game along with next week's to avoid finishing under .500 for the first time since 1989 (the year prior to Dave Urick's arrival on the Hilltop).

The Blue & Gray will have to do it against a Rutgers team that is the best face-off unit in the BIG EAST at .593 percent. Christopher Mattes has won .655 of his face-off attempts this season. Georgetown will counter with Brian Tabb, who is five face-off wins away from moving into third place in Hoya history.

Other notes: The PA announcer here is really good. Great voice, kind of gives the game the feel of a championship boxing match. I'd put him in a similar class with Georgetown's very own Kondi Kleinman for best PA voices that I've heard in my travels. The guy here has the opening tagline of "Let's Get This Game Underway." Very similar to a certain line made famous by Michael Buffer. I approve.

Also, Randi Larson the Senior Academic Advisor at Rutgers and wife of former Georgetown Associate SID Ben Shove stopped by to say hello.

1ST QUARTER: Rutgers wins the opening face-off and 17 Kevin Hover scores after a Hoya defender blocked a shot attempt. RUTGERS 1, GEORGETOWN 0.

12:30: Brett Weiss gets Georgetown on the board as he cut to the right, jumped and shot for the goal. Davey Emala gets the assist to tie the score GEORGETOWN 1, RUTGERS 1.

9:12: Zack Angel handed the ball off to Max Seligmann near midfield and Seligmann did the rest of the work. Seligmann ran past two defenders and then shot five hole for the Hoyas second goal of the game. GEORGETOWN 2, Rutgers 1

The stands are starting to fill up pretty nicely. The pressbox crew seems to believe that a lot of the first quarter arriving crowd is coming straight from Rutgers' spring football game that was played in golf ball driving distance away at Rutgers Stadium. I am also learning from Matt Haas' (Rutgers SID) and the folks on the Verizon Fios1 broadcast that while GU has lost three straight games, Rutgers has lost seven straight up to this point.

5:50: Brett Weiss scored again! The play was set up as Travis Comeau knocked the ball from the stick of the goalie then made a diving behind the back save as the defense collapsed behind the cage. Comeau's save fell at the feet of Emala who quickly picked it up and found a wide open Weiss 15 feet in front of the net for his second goal. GEORGETOWN 3, Rutgers 1.

1:23: Georgetown will go man-up for a minute after a slashing call on 44 Ryan Warnick.

2ND QUARTER

13:36: TRAVIS COMEAU GOAL! Rutgers attempted to clear from behind their own net when Comeau intercepted the pass just to the left hand side of the cage and flipped the ball into the empty net one-handed. The goal was not Comeau's first one-handed goal ever, but maybe his easiest. GEORGETOWN 4, Rutgers 1.

9:54: ZACK ANGEL GOAL! With two penalty flags on the ground Angel uncorked a sidearm shot that found the back of the cage to put Georgetown in front by one goal. Following the goal Rutgers is man down, but we have not heard in the pressbox yet what the penalty is. GEORGETOWN 5, Rutgers 1.

9:19: Travis Comeau was flagged for a slash on Rutgers clear attempt. He will be in the box for one minute. Speaking of Comeau, while he's in the box or maybe at halftime you may be interested in reading this feature that appeared in this week's Georgetown Voice, written by Kevin Joseph. 5:09: RICKEY MIRABITO GOAL! Georgetown's ride again has stifled Rutgers, who has not been able to clear the ball well against GU so far. Dan Hostetler knocked the ball down at midfield, Davey Emala somehow came away from the scrum with it, under pressure he flipped it one-handed to Mirabito who beat the goalie from point blank range. GEORGETOWN 6, Rutgers 1.

4:15: Rutgers was able to clear the ball off a GU shot and Mike Diehl got the Scarlet Knights on the board for the first time since the the 13:40 mark in the first quarter. GEORGETOWN 6, Rutgers 2.

3:14 TIME OUT RUTGERS

2:38: Rutgers is putting together a nice run at the end of the second quarter as Will Mangan scored another one to make the score GEORGETOWN 6, Rutgers 3.

0:48 TIME OUT GEORGETOWN

0:00 Georgetown was unable to get off a good shot at the end of the second quarter as the Hoyas go into halftime with a 6-3 lead. More to come in the third quarter.

3RD QUARTER:

14:45: Rutgers goalie has come out on fire, stopping a point blank shot from Mirabito and then stopping the rebound shot from Tyler Knarr.

11:01 DAVEY EMALA GOAL! Emala scores on the fast break as Bobby Boyle flipped the ball to Emala who was waiting on the left side of the crease for the first goal of the second half. GEORGETOWN 7, Rutgers 3.

10:05 & 9:50: If you blinked you may have missed the back-to-back Rutgers goals. The Scarlet Knights scored and then won the face-off and pumped another one in very quickly. GEORGETOWN 7, Rutgers 5.

9:19 Rutgers is called for an illegal bodycheck as Travis Comeau got crushed trying to pick up a ground ball near the crease.

6:30: HAT TRICK BRETT WEISS! Brett Weiss took the pass from Mirabito and blasted a shot from 15 feet in front of the cage into the left side of the net. It is Weiss' first career hat trick. Weiss also has more goals today (3) than he had coming into this game during the 2011 season (2).

2:33 Scott Klimchak wrapped around the cage and shot low to bring Rutgers back within two goals. A very athletic goal from Klimchak who now leads the Scarlet Knights with 24 goals. GEORGETOWN 8, Rutgers 6

1:32: Mike Diehl just beat Davis with the worm-burner shot to bring the Scarlet Knights within one for the first time since the score was 2-1 around the 9:12 mark in the first quarter.

0:34 DAVEY EMALA GOAL! Emala scores his second goal of the game in a pretty big spot, putting GU back up by two. Emala now has five points on two goals and three assists.

4TH QUARTER

14:49 TRAVIS COMEAU GOAL! Georgetown won the opening face-off brought the ball down the field quickly shot, which was stopped, then Comeau picked up the ground ball ran around a defender and scored to increase the Hoyas lead to three. GEORGETOWN 10, Rutgers 7.

14:17: Georgetown will go two men down, as David Shriver and Dan Hostetler will both spend a little time in the box on slashing calls.

10:37: RYAN SHULER GOAL! Shuler scored on the assist from Emala. Also of note, Emala now has a career high five assists for the Hoyas. GEORGETOWN 11, Rutgers 8.

8:13: John Urbank called for the slash. GU will be man down for 30 seconds.
