Yates Field House
Completed in 1979 at a cost of $ 7.5 million, Yates Field House features state-of-the-art facilities that allow members to achieve their health and fitness goals while utilizing a wide variety of activities. A 142,000 sq. ft., four-level sports and recreation facility, Yates is named for Fr. Gerard F. Yates, SJ, former professor, student advisor and Chime for 40 years.
Yates members have year round access to an 8 lane heated indoor swimming pool. There is also a diving well in which recreational swimming and aqua-jogging is permitted.
The largest portable wood floor in the world contains three full-length basketball courts and three shooting courts for Yates members. Reservations are not necessary, as there is a "next game" policy in place. In addition, basketballs are provided on the main floor.
Yates has 2 air-conditioned rooms where all of our group fitness classes are conducted. The Dance/Exercise room has a hardwood dance floor and is home to our high-impact fitness classes. The Multi-Purpose room has a foam rubber floor which is ideal for low impact aerobic classes.
Members can compliment their cardiovascular training with weight training in our extensive weight area. Yates provides over 100 selectorized weight stations including Nautilus, Med-X , Cybex and Body Master for muscle specific exercises. Also available are York and Iron Grip dumbbells (5lbs-105lbs) IGX E-Z curl bars (20lbs-110lbs) and two plate loaded Smith machines.
Yates offers over 60 cardiovascular machines to meet the exercisers' needs. Avid runner can avail themselves of 16 treadmills including popular brands Precor, Trotter and Lifestride. For those exercisers who enjoy the non-impact workouts of cross trainers and stationary bikes, enjoy our Precor and Life fitness cross trainers with heart monitors. Rounding out our equipment, look for and try out our Stairmaster steppers and stepmills, concept II ergometers and Life cycle and Life fitness recumbent and upright bikes.
The Center operates as a campus health promotion resource offering information on diet, stress management, health risk appraisal, personal health and a wide variety of other topics in the form of seminars, literature, computer software and special events. Both individual and group consultations are available.
There are 800 lockers in both the Men's and Women's locker rooms, which are divided into "Day" and "Rental" lockers. There are also shower facilities, a sauna, and vanities available in each locker room.
Yates has extensive racquet sport facilities, with 6 indoor and 8 outdoor tennis courts along with 3 racquetball and 4 squash courts.
