Meet the Hall of Famers

January 6, 2006

It has been said the true mark of excellence is consistency. In 1974, the arrival at Georgetown
of an accomplished freshman from Wheaton, Illinois helped to introduce
a new era of consistent excellence in Georgetown basketball.

In his four years on the Hilltop, Derrick Jackson led the John Thompson-coached teams to
victory in 70 percent of their games. In 1975, he shot Georgetown into its first
NCAA tournament appearance in more than 30 years.

For three years, he led his team in scoring. Three times, he was recognized as the most valuable
player on the team. He still holds the single-season Georgetown record of 88 percent
for free throw accuracy. A team captain, he finished his career
as Georgetown's all-time leading scorer, earning All-America,
All-East, and area College Player of the Year honors.
In addition, for two seasons, he starred in the
outfield for the baseball Hoyas.

In recognition of his record-breaking achievements and his integral role in the annals of
Georgetown basketball, the name of

Derrick V. Jackson, B'78

is permanently inscribed in the Georgetown University Athletic Hall of Fame
among the names of the greatest athletes in the history of the University.

Given this fourth day of February in the year of 1994.
