Georgetown Gray Out: Building Our Home-Court at Verizon Center
What a weekend! Our Georgetown Hoyas shot an amazing 71% from the field, along with strong rebounding, and defensive efforts to rout Duke this Saturday January 30, 2010. The day started very early for me as I drove into Verizon Center garage at 8:00 AM. My car was thoroughly inspected, as the dogs wondered why I was arriving so early. I went through the metal detectors and waited for the rest of the crew to arrive and place the Gray T-shirts in Verizon Center. I then headed for the Administrative entrance to greet HHC President, Al Bozzo, Mike Higgins, and Karen Schneider et al. Other HHC Board members, the GU Football team, and many members of Hoya Blue allowed us to put the shirts out in about an hour. The Secret Service looked on with curiosity. As I sat and spoke with Rich Chvotkin, and many members of the Georgetown Athletic Department, I had an overwhelming sense of pride in Georgetown and our Men’s Basketball Program.
As I reflect back on the weekend, it is my hope that we will continue to consistently fill the
Verizon Center with our fans. It is my wish that we always strive to keep only Georgetown fans in the seats. There is nothing worse than to see opposing fans in Our House. I want to thank everyone in the Georgetown Athletic Department, Ticket Office, and our Hoyas Unlimited Staff for working so hard the last few months on the Gray Out. Most of us have no idea how many months of work it took to produce the Gray Out. Thanks to everyone involved. Let’s continue to have great crowds as we have an extremely difficult schedule awaiting our Hoyas. I do remember going to Tampa, Florida to see us lose to USF in 2006 after we had beaten Duke. It was USF’s first Big East win. If anyone has seen USF and their prolific scorer, Dominique Jones, you know that they can beat anyone. Let’s Rock the Verizon Center for every home game--Hoya Saxa!
So remember: Arrive Early to Verizon Center and Support our Hoyas!
I will see everyone tomorrow at the USF game.
We are Georgetown!
