WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Lee Reed announced today that Dan Trump has been named Senior Associate Athletics Director for Internal Operations. Trump joins the Hoyas after seven years with the athletics staff at the University of Maryland. In addition, Reed announced the promotion of Dan O'Neil to Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Affairs.
"I'm excited to have someone with Dan's background join the Georgetown family," Reed said. "He brings a broad wealth of knowledge with more than 20 years of experience and will be a great asset to our student-athletes, coaches and staff."
As the Senior Associate Athletics Director, Trump will oversee the areas of human resources, compliance, sports medicine, sports performance, student-athlete leadership and development, as well as assisting the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics with the internal operations of the department. Trump will serve as the sport administrator for football, baseball, men's and women's tennis.
Trump was named the senior associate athletics director for compliance at Maryland in September 2011. Trump provided oversight of Maryland's compliance unit and had previously held responsibilities of overseeing the sports medicine, strength and conditioning and academic service units as well as being the sport supervisor for men's and women's tennis and baseball.
He joined the Maryland Athletics staff in March 2006 as the associate A.D. for compliance.
Trump came to Maryland from the Patriot League, where he served for two years, finishing as associate executive director. Prior to that, Trump was the associate director of athletics for compliance at Oregon State University.
Originally from Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., Trump is a 1992 graduate of the University of California, Berkeley. During his playing career, Trump was a catcher and four-year letterwinner for the Golden Bears. He was a member of two College World Series teams at Cal (1988 & 1992) and served as team captain during his senior season.
In 1992, Trump joined the staff at Loyola Marymount University as the athletic ticket manager and facilities director. In his second year at LMU, he added responsibilities as assistant baseball coach for the Lions.
After attending graduate school at Central Michigan University and serving a one-year internship at California, Trump returned to Loyola Marymount as the athletic promotions coordinator/ticket manager. He was promoted to assistant athletics director/compliance coordinator in 1997 and served in that role for more than two years before accepting his position at Oregon State University.
Reed also announced that Dan O'Neil has been elevated to Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Affairs. O'Neil, who has been with Georgetown since 1999, has been overseeing the department's marketing, sponsorship, licensing, ticket sales, media rights and sports information since March 2010.
"The promotion of Dan is recognition for his contributions to our department," Reed said. "His leadership of our external affairs team has been instrumental in our revenue generation efforts. He has also been a key contributor to the successful implementation of our department-wide strategic initiatives. Dan continues to be a valued colleague and I am glad to have him as part of my senior leadership team."
