A Letter from Athletic Director Lee Reed
June 8, 2010
Dear Hoya Faithful,
I am both honored and humbled to be named to the Francis X. Rienzo Chair as the 17th Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at Georgetown University. My family and I are excited to join the Hoya family and ready to fully embrace the rich tradition of academic and athletic excellence that defines Georgetown. I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with our talented student-athletes, coaches, staff and all of you, as together; we advance our intercollegiate athletics programs.
Georgetown is unique in many ways and our model for intercollegiate athletics should be celebrated. All we do is informed by our core values of Integrity, Leadership, Community and Academic and Athletic Excellence. It is with these values in mind that we will continue to build upon our tradition of excellence as we strive to reach our full potential.
I plan to spend my summer in design/build mode. This process begins with me actively listening to and learning from all of our key constituencies. After gathering data and input we can begin repurposing our assets to strengthen key revenue generating areas. This course of action will position our department to quickly and efficiently begin to address the issues confronting our continued success, such as facilities, student-athlete welfare and competitive initiatives.
Great college athletics programs are built through great private support and that has never been more true than today. In the coming weeks and months I hope to meet as many of you as I can to personally thank you for all that you have done and all that you continue to do in support of our student athletes and coaches and Hoya athletics. Until then, have a safe and productive summer.
