WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University Sports Performance Department will host a two-day CrossFit Football seminar at Yates Field House, beginning on Saturday, August 3 and finishing on Sunday, August 4.
During the weekend seminar, participants will be taught the basic movements for training, sprinting, change-of-direction and agility drills. Also included, will be information on nutrition, coaching philosophies, programming for sport specific athletes and film study. Instruction will be led by former Philadelphia Eagles' offensive lineman John Welbourn, a CrossFit Level 2 instructor and creator of CrossFit Football.
"Hosting The CrossFit Football Seminar is just another way for my staff and myself to get better as coaches," Head of Sports Performance Mike Hill said. "We are always trying to move forward and learn new philosophies while refreshing the old ones."
The two-day CrossFit Football seminar is an introduction to "Power Athlete" concepts, movements and the level of intensity required to build a "Power Athlete." Attendees will be provided with a foundation for training for "Power Sports."
"Power" as it relates to sport is defined as the dynamic expression of absolute strength over a short period of time. That skill is transferable across many sports in addition to football, which is why the seminar provides value for any coach or athlete. While fitness is just one component of athleticism, efficient movement and stability are paramount in sport. During the seminar, instructors will teach coaches and athletes perfection of movement, strength of body and mind and put an emphasis in training.
While the seminar is open to all, only attendees already holding a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer Certificate will be eligible to earn a CrossFit Football Trainer Certificate. Those who do not hold a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer Certificate who still wish to attend will earn a Certificate of Attendance for successful completion of the weekend course.
