Georgetown Athletics Department Announces Staff Changes

WASHINGTON - As the start of the 2013-14 academic and athletic year draws closer, Georgetown University Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Lee Reed announced a series of staff changes to the administrative team on the Hilltop.
"The backbone of the Georgetown Athletics department is our support staff," Reed said. "From the sports information office to the athletic trainers, the marketing staff and our facilities and operations staff, these changes will improve the support of our coaches and student-athletes and help us to continue to achieve our goals."
Mike "Mex" Carey will now serve as the Assistant Athletics Director for Communications, overseeing the Sports Information Department. Barbara Barnes moves into the role of Director of Sports Information, with oversight of the guhoyas.com website, while Diana Pulupa has been promoted to Brand Manager/Associate Sports Information Director.
In addition, Pete Kirschner has been promoted to Senior Director of Marketing, while Andrew Harrington has been named Director of Athletic Facilities and Jason Poppe joins the staff as the Assistant Director of Events & Operations.
Other changes to staff responsibilities include: the promotion of Shawn Hendi to Assistant Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Health & Wellness; Dr. Mike Lorenzen, Director of Student Athlete Leadership & Development will join the senior leadership team and have sport oversight responsibilities for field hockey and women's lacrosse; and the administrative oversight for men and women's track & field and cross country programs will be handled by Associate Athletics Director/Senior Women's Administrator, Sharon Brummell.
