Sept. 16, 2014 WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University Sports Performance staff will host a High Performance Weightlifting seminar with former USA Olympic weightlifting coach Harvey Newton and Olympic weightlifter Cara Heads Slaughter on Saturday, September 27 and Sunday, September 28.

"It is an honor to host a former US Olympic Coach and Olympian here at Georgetown," Head Sports Performance Coach Mike Hill said. "This is a great opportunity to for anyone to learn from their expert knowledge and experience in the field."
The two-day seminar is designed for strength coaches, athletic trainers, sports scientists, sports medicine professionals and CrossFit coaches. Attendees will gain a clear understanding of how to coach and integrate Olympic lifts in their athlete's training programs to enhance explosive power and performance.
Newton has over 50 years in the sport of weightlifting. He competed for 17 years before being named as the first coach of Team USA weightlifting. The author of "Explosive Lifting for Sports" Newton has been a featured lecturer on several International Olympic Committee Solidarity courses and has consulted at all levels on athlete and coach education and development.
Heads Slaughter had a successful 18-year career as an Olympic weightlifter, earning eight national championship titles and setting two American records. She represented the U.S. at five world championships and as a member of the 2000 U.S. Olympic Team. She has stayed active in the weightlifting world as a private coach, teaching group classes and sharing her expertise at weightlifting clinics and seminars.
