John Thompson III Foundation to Hold Community Festival Sept. 25

WASHINGTON - The John Thompson III Foundation will host its Fourth Annual JTIII Foundation Community Festival on Saturday, September 25, 2010 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Turkey Thicket Recreation Center, located at 1100 Michigan Ave, NE in Washington, D.C. In its second year at Turkey Thicket, the event promotes physical activity, education and health care.
It is a free, fun-filled day for children and adults, with food, games and entertainment. The festival consists of arts & crafts, interactive games, sport stations, book readings, health screenings for adults and a basketball clinic hosted by Coach Thompson and the Hoyas. The basketball clinic is open to all children under the age of fourteen and will begin around 12:30pm.
This year's participating organizations include: Everybody Wins! DC, Dr. Thomas Wong Optometrist, Prevention Works!, Uniting for Life, Boys & Girls Club of Greater Washington, DC Fire/EMS and others.
Founded in 2007, the mission of the John Thompson III Foundation is to foster recently established non-profits that serve at-risk children and families. The primary focus is on education and healthcare for families. It raises funds and awareness for the partners it supports, which primarily, but not exclusively, are non-profits in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan region.
