The Hoyas Unlimited Board of Directors meets three times each year to discuss issues affecting the organization and to plan and implement organization-wide policies. The board consists of a representative of each affiliated support club (traditionally the club president), up to five individuals chosen by the president of the Alumni Association and up to 35 at-large members which represent a cross section of interests. In addition, several staff members serve as ex-officio members of the board.
Each at-large member serves a three-year term and can be re-elected one time. All other voting members serve one-year terms and can be re-nominated, while the ex-officio members contribute while they serve in their staff positions. In order to encourage continued involvement in the board, those who have completed their terms are welcomed onto to the Emeritus Council, a group whose members are welcome to attend board meetings, join committees and express their ideas and opinions, but do not take part in the voting process. The responsibilities of Hoyas Unlimited and its support clubs are split into three main categories: communications, events and fundraising. Since Hoyas Unlimited is an umbrella organization of distinct clubs, much of the planning of the events and communications is left to the clubs' own desires. The board meetings then provide an excellent opportunity for clubs to report to one another on successful means of strengthening their influence and presence among alumni, family and friends of GU Athletics. The meetings also allow members to hear from the GU Athletics staff.
Each affiliated club has a club president, chosen according to the by-laws of the club. Many of the more robust clubs (i.e. Hoop Club, Crease Club, GRA) also have active boards with specific responsibilities.
For more information, please feel free to e-mail any staff member. Or, if you prefer, you can call Hoyas Unlimited at (202) 687-7159.
