The Georgetown Athletics Vision
Georgetown University's varsity athletics programs are a major component of the Hilltop community. Georgetown offers 29 varsity sports that compete at the Division I level, most of them in the nationally-recognized BIG EAST Conference. Georgetown's 700 student-athletes are a major portion of the University's enrollment, with more than one of every 10 graduates competing on a team.

Athletics at Georgetown are a natural component of the Jesuit approach to education, a philosophy that seeks balance in the care, growth and development of the individual. In this context, athletics create opportunities for students and help them reach their full potential. Every element of intercollegiate sport at Georgetown is fashioned within a context that speaks to this Ignatian vision of cura personalis--care of the whole person. Cura personalis suggests individualized attention to the needs of the other, distinct respect for his or her unique circumstances and concerns and an appropriate appreciation for his or her particular gifts and insights. Athletics at Georgetown illustrate the University's mission to educate the whole person.

Georgetown student-athletes develop as spiritual, intellectual, artistic, social and physical leaders. The University's commitment to educating the whole person is evident in its strong core curriculum, wide array of academic programs, and commitment to athletic, living-learning, and religiously-centered communities.
