WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team travels to play Seton Hall this weekend in a critical three-game BIG EAST series. Due to construction at Seton Hall's home field, the series will be played at St. John's Jack Kaiser Stadium in Queens, New York. Friday's series opener is set for 3 p.m. while Saturday's doubleheader will start at noon. Links to live stats and video streams for all three games will be available at GUHoyas.com.
The Hoyas (19-30, 5-7 BIG EAST) currently hold the fourth and final berth for the BIG EAST Championship with six conference games remaining. Georgetown is tied with St. John's, but holds the tiebreaker due to GU's three-game sweep earlier this season. Seton Hall is currently in third place, just one game ahead of the Hoyas.
Georgetown is coming off a doubleheader sweep over Maryland Eastern Shore on Wednesday evening, coming away with victories of 13-5 and 4-2 at Shirley Povich Field. Freshmen
Angelo Tonas (Hillsborough, Calif. / Sacred Heart Prep) and
Jack Weeks (Reston, Va. / Paul VI) each picked up their first career wins on the mound and
Owen Lamon (Herndon, Va. / Oakton) registered his first collegiate save.
Freddy Achecar III (Atlanta, Ga. / Lovett School) had three hits and four RBIs to lead the offense while
Ryan Weisenberg (Parkland, Fla. / San Ramon Valley [Calif.]) and
Kai Nelson (New York, N.Y. / Fieldston) each had three hits including two doubles in the first game and Nelson drove in three runs.
Ryan M. Davis (Danville, Calif. / San Ramon Valley) and
Kyle Ruedisili (Jupiter, Fla. / The Benjamin School / Washington and Lee University) each homered. With its first strikeout in Wednesday's doubleheader, the Georgetown pitching staff set the program record with its 415th strikeout of the season, breaking the previous record set in 2017.
For the season, McCabe leads Georgetown with a .328 (58 for 177) batting average, is second with 25 RBIs and is one of four Hoyas with three home runs. Ruedisili leads the Hoyas with 10 home runs, 14 doubles, 37 runs scored, 26 RBIs and 15 stolen bases.
Ryan P. Davis (Oak Hill, Va. / Oakton) is second on the squad with four home runs while
Ryan M. Davis has hit three home runs and is second on the squad with 13 doubles and nine stolen bases. As a team, Georgetown is batting .257 and has hit 37 home runs, the program's most since 2010. The pitching staff has a 5.30 team ERA.
Ruedisili's 10 home runs are the most in a season since Rand Ravnaas hit 11 in 2010.
Jack Cushing (Flower Mound, Texas / Marcus) currently has 221 career strikeouts, which is good for third all-time in program history. He is just three behind Tim Adleman (N'10) for second and eight behind Matt Smith (B'16) for the career record.
Seton Hall enters the weekend with a 22-23 overall record and a 6-6 mark in BIG EAST play. The Pirates have won five of their last six games, including a series win over Xavier last weekend. Tyler Shedler-McAvoy leads Seton Hall with a .314 (54 for 172) batting average and has a team-high 18 stolen bases and 30 RBIs. Christian Del Castillo is batting .294 (45 for 153) with five home runs and 13 doubles while Casey Dana leads the team with six home runs. As a squad, Seton Hall is batting .251 and has stolen 62 bases while the pitching staff has a 4.05 team ERA.
