WASHINGTON – Georgetown softball played Villanova twice on Saturday in a double header after Friday's game was rained out. The Hoyas beat the Wildcats 8-3 in game one and lost 8-6 in game two. The Blue & Gray returns tomorrow to play Villanova for a third time with the first pitch set for noon.
How It Happened
Game 1 vs. the Wildcats
- Georgetown set the ball in motion in the second taking a 4-0 lead early.
- With a number of walks by Brooklyn Ostrowski, the Hoyas had bases loaded. Kacy Lyman was walked to have Naya Campos cross the plate for the Hoyas' first run of the game (1-0).
- Cameron Kondo followed up later in the inning with a hard-hit ball up the middle of the field for Gabby Park and Morgan Zamora to score (3-0). Kayla Dunn added another RBI single to center field for Lyman to score (4-0).
- Still in the second inning, the Blue & Gray took advantage of a wild pitch and tacked on a fifth run.
- In the fifth inning, Zamora launched a sac fly to the right foul line and Vasquez-Inzunza earned Georgetown's sixth run.
- The Wildcats tried to cut the deficit in the top of the sixth inning when they loaded the bases. Madison Ostrowski singled to left field and Lilly St. Jean scored (6-1).
- Villanova added a second run in the sixth from a GU fielding error to make the score 6-2.
- Mae Forshey responded in the bottom of the sixth inning with a homer straight over the center field fence for a 2 RBI home run (8-3).
- The Wildcats tried to make a final comeback in the seventh inning with an RBI double, but they could not level the score and the Hoyas won 8-3.
- Julia Parker led the Hoyas from the circle with Dunn coming in to relieve in the sixth.
Game 2 vs. the Wildcats
- Georgetown and Villanova went scoreless through the first and the Wildcats went up 4-0 in the top of the second inning from runs scored off a double, a wild pitch and two singles.
- In the bottom of the second, Gabby Park hit an RBI single to bring Naya Campos across the plate followed by Gianna Sciullo (4-2).
- The Wildcats added a fifth run in the third inning from an RBI double slipped down the left field line (5-2).
- Gianna Sciullo stepped in to pinch hit in the fifth inning and smashed a ball over the fence to make it 5-3.
- Villanova tripled in the sixth bringing a runner home and then added an RBI single later in the inning giving the Wildcats a 7-3 lead.
- Georgetown pushed Villanova in the sixth with a series of runs that made the Wildcats replace their pitcher mid-inning. Morgan Zamora doubled to left field and Lorena Vasquez-Inzunza scored (7-4).
- Later in the inning, Park added to her hit count with a single to right field and Campos scored (7-5).
- The Hoyas continued their run streak when Lyman bunted and reached first allowing Zamora to get Georgetown's sixth run (7-6).
- Villanova added an eighth run in the seventh inning and despite the Blue & Gray's efforts in the bottom of the inning, the score closed out 8-6.
