Georgetown Defeats UConn in Series Finale

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University softball team took and early lead and never relinquished the advantage defeating the UConn Huskies 5-2 Sunday afternoon in its final game in its series with the Huskies. The Hoyas are now 7-20 overall, 3-6 in BIG EAST play, while UConn falls to 17-9 overall and 6-3 in conference play.

Head Coach Pat Conlan
  • ""I am incredibly proud of this team for being able to bounce back after Friday. We put every part of the game together and played with great energy. Today was a great day for the Hoyas."
How it Happened
  • In the first at bat of the game, Cameron Kondo ripped a leadoff homer to center field to put the Hoyas up 1-0.
  • The Hoyas tacked another onto their lead in the second inning with a homer from Lorena Vasquez-Inzunza to left center.
  • In the third, Claire Turner used a stolen base and two wild pitches to tally another run for the Hoyas making it 3-0.
  • Later in the inning, a triple from Morgan Zamora sent Kondo across the plate, with a wild pitch allowing Zamora to scamper home to bring the Hoya lead to 5-0.
  • UConn got on the board with a pair of runs scored by Grace Jenkins and Makenzie Mason in the bottom of the third, but that would be as close as the Huskies would get.
  • The Hoya defense came up with three quick outs in the bottom of the sixth with UConn runners in scoring position, and the 5-2 score would stand through the seventh inning, ultimately handing the Hoyas the win.
Hoya Highlights
  • Kondo hit her eighth home run of the season for 1-for-1 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored.
  • Vasquez-Inzunza hit her first homerun of the season going 1-for-3 with an RBI to her credit.
  • Zamora was 2-for-3 at the dish with an RBI.
  • Julia Parker tallied two strikeouts in 4.1 innings of work for the Hoyas.
