Box Score 2 WASHINGTON – Georgetown softball went 0-2 on its second day at The Spring Games in Madeira Beach, Florida today. The Hoyas fell 6-0 to Middle Tennessee and 7-0 to UAlbany. The team battled through to the finish and are set to return for a final game against Holy Cross tomorrow morning at 11:30 a.m.
How It Happened
vs. the Lightning
- The Hoyas had momentum in the first inning leaving Middle Tennessee with no runs with the final out coming from Morgan Zamora catching an MT pop fly.
- The Lightning added two runs from a single to left field and a double to left center in the second inning to go up 2-0.
- Middle Tennessee had two runners on bases in the third inning, slipping a ball through the infield to advance runners for a third and fourth run on the next play from another well-struck single.
- In the fourth inning, MT went up 5-0 with a SAC bunt for a Lightning player to score.
- Georgetown defended well in the sixth inning with Tennessee runners on third and first base. The Hoyas closed the top of the inning after getting the final out from a Lightning player who was caught stealing.
- The Lighting tabbed an RBI single to get a sixth run in the seventh inning to finish the game 6-0.
Vs. the Great Danes
- Georgetown and UAlbany went scoreless through the first two and a half innings.
- The Great Danes tabbed their first run off a sac fly to left field to advance a runner from third base across the plate.
- UAB doubled its lead later in the inning with an RBI single to left field (2-0).
- The Hoyas battled in the fourth inning with Cameron Kondo on second, Kacy Lyman on first base and Claire Turner up third to bat for the Blue & Gray. Turner was thrown out at first and Kondo and Lyman advanced to second and third, respectively. Abbey Shiller was not awarded a walk after being struck by a pitch and the inning played out with two GU runners left on base.
- The Great Danes added a run in the fifth from a slipped ball up the middle of the park (3-0) and then an additional three runs off a triple (6-0).
- Despite the Hoyas landing hits, the score closed out 8-0 in the sixth inning.
