Georgetown Athletics Leadership Institute
The GALI will give authenticity and substance to the use of intercollegiate athletics participation as a means towards the higher education end of developing young people. It will advance the connection of Athletics at Georgetown with the academic silos on campus and the integration of athletic activities within the broad educational mission of the university.
Through the creation of an academic course curriculum for all student-athletes; executive coaching and professional development of coaches; collaborative research with external experts; integration of existing academic disciplines on campus; the leveraging of leadership resources within the Washington DC community; the evolution of a consulting practice on team dynamics; and a longitudinal approach to holistic development in preparation for professional careers, the GALI will provide an unrivaled experience for student-athletes and establish a perpetually funded and sustainable competitive advantage for Hoya teams.
Operations and Services
Mission: All of the programs and research of the Georgetown Athletics Leadership Institute will be dedicated to caring for and developing young people through co-curricular participation in elite level athletics. The GALI is a functional area of Intercollegiate Athletics dedicated to the premise that all student-athletes have the potential to change the world through their ability to influence. As an academic component of the university, the GALI will conduct transdisciplinary research in leadership and team dynamics. This will require leveraging all of the resources within Georgetown and connecting with outside experts in academics, medicine, business, and sports to advance the field. The application of research findings to student-athlete and team development will provide the university with a sustainable and differentiable competitive advantage.
