WASHINGTON - Following two days of finals in an 18-boat final, the Georgetown University sailing team finished sixth in the finals of the 2017 ICSA Gill Coed National Championship on Friday night. The finals, held on the Charleston Harbor and the Cooper River in Charleston, S.C., concluded after 18 races in both the A division and the B division.
The Hoyas were off to a strong start in the two-day finals, but a rough second day plagued the Blue & Gray as the team slipped from first place after the first day of finals to sixth at the end of the second day.
In the A division, Georgetown finished eighth overall with 155 points after six double-digit performances to close the day. It was a big change from day one when the Hoyas recorded only one double-digit finish in 10 races.
The B division saw a more consistent showing from GU, but a few finishes outside of the top 10 plagued the Hoyas late as they slipped to fifth in the 18-team field.
Following the spring championships, All-Americans were announced with a quartet of Hoyas garnering the honor. Campbell D’Eliscu (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor) was named an All-American skipper while Sean Segerblom (Costa Mesa, Calif./Newport Harbor) picked up honorable mention honors as a skipper. Rebecca Fung (Rye, N.Y./Rye) and Meaghan MacRae (Melrose, Mass./Tabor Academy) were both named crew All-Americans.
