WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Georgetown University sailing team, ranked sixth in both the coed and women's ICSA polls, competed in three different regattas among some of the most highly-ranked teams in the country over the weekend: Mrs. Hurst Regatta, Nevins Trophy and NY Maritime Regatta. Georgetown finished in the top six if not higher in all 3 regattas. Georgetown finished fifth of 18 at the Mrs. Hurst Regatta held at Dartmouth in Hanover, N.H. this past weekend. The race was postponed early Saturday morning due to a light mist and lack of wind. Eventually the race got underway with senior Emily Babbitt (Dartmouth, Mass./Bishop Stang) and sophomore Ashley Philips (Charleston, S.C./Ashley Hall) placed 11th in division A with a total of 64 points. In division B Georgetown's freshman Sydney Bolger and sophomore Ginger Cutler (New York, N.Y./Groton School) placed third with 37 points. The Mrs. Hurst Regatta was Sydney Bolger's first collegiate race. Overall, Georgetown placed fifth in the Mrs. Hurst Regatta with a total 101 points. Top-ranked College of Charleston came in first with a total of 60 points. Harvard, tabbed eighth by the ICSA, followed with 61 points and No. 3 Yale finished third with 90 points. Georgetown was also in attendance at the Nevins Trophy in Kings Point, N.Y. Georgetown placed sixth out of 20 teams with a total of 216 points. Georgetown seniors Nik Holtan (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) and Carly Chamberlain (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor) came in 10th in the division A race with a total of 92 points. Sophomore Evan Aras (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) and junior Alex Taylor (Hobe Sound, Fla./The Benjamin School) placed second in the division B race with a total of 59 points just shy of finishing behind first place and top-ranked Boston College with a total of 40 points.
Georgetown's highest team finish from this weekend took place at the NY Maritime Regatta. Georgetown placed third of 18 teams with a total of 59 points. Sophomore Scott Furnary (Rye, N.Y./Rye Country Day) and Brooks Walker placed second with a total of 17 points in the Division A race. Hobart/William Smith, tabbed the 20th team in coed sailing, finished first with a total of 13 points in the division A race. Tristan Berne and senior Brook Crawford (North Palm Beach, Fla./St. George's School) placed sixth in the division B race with a total of 42 points. |
