Janel Zarkowsky Named Assistant Coach for Hoyas #1 Ranked Sailing Program

Janel, grew up sailing on the Chesapeake Bay competing in both single- and double-handed boats starting at age 7. She completed a Bachelor of Arts in both cello performance and music history through Boston University in 2009. As an undergraduate, Janel was a four-year member of the Boston University Sailing Team, competing as their women's A skipper as well as crew for the coed, team race and keelboat teams. She placed top five in her division at numerous regattas and helped qualify the Terriers for the ICSA Women's National Championships all four years. After graduating, Janel continued coaching at Boston University as their Assistant Coach, while completing a Masters of Science in Nonprofit Administration.

"I met Janel last spring when she was coaching her team at a local regatta and I was immediately impressed with he coaching style and knowledge of the sport. She brings a wealth of sailing experience to the job and will really help our team improve."
Janel still continues to actively compete today. She is the current Vice President of the Vanguard 15 fleet and has fleet- and team-raced at both the national and international levels for the past 6 years in Vanguard 15's and Fireflies. She has also match-raced multiple grade 1 and 2 events as bowman, in addition to multiple training sessions with Team Tunnicliffe, Team Seven, David Dellenbaugh and Dave Perry. Janel has also judged and umpired at the collegiate level, and recently began umpiring grade 3 and 4 match races in New England.
