Jared Cooper-Vespa and Ryan Blom Earn Most Outstanding Men’s Divers; Michael Tober Earns Diving Coach of the Year

The Georgetown University swimming and diving program has announced that Mike Tober has been named the new Diving Coach. Tober comes to the Hilltop with 17 years of college coaching experience, having spent time in the same role at University of Maryland and George Washington.

"Mike has a tremendous amount of experience as a club and college diving coach and I am extremely happy to have him on staff," Swimming and Diving Head Coach James Holder said. "He brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to our team and I feel he will be someone who can help take our team to the next level."

At Georgetown, Tober will be responsible for the men's and women's diving teams that have featured several strong performers over the past few seasons. Prior to Georgetown, Tober started and ran a successful aquatic sports camp in the D.C. metropolitan area, where he coaches diving.

As a diving coach, Tober spent 14 years at the University of Maryland and three years at George Washington University. He was named a USA National Dive Team coach from 1995-97 and was named a Pan American Games Coach in 1995.

Tober, an Arlington, Va. native and Yorktown High School graduate, was a five-time All Atlantic Coast Conference diver at North Carolina State University where he also earned NCAA All America honors. He was a member of the USA National Dive Team, placing in the top 12 in all three diving events at the USA Senior National Championships, placing eighth on the three-meter springboard, 11th on the 10-meter platform and 12th on the one-meter springboard. He participated in the 1980 Olympic trials and was a gold medalist on the three-meter springboard and 10-meter platform at the 10th Maccabi Games in Israel.

Tober is married with one son, Ian.
