WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University swimming & diving team competed in its final home meet of the season on Saturday, swimming against Drexel University on Senior Day at McCarthy Pool. The Hoya women fell, 159-135, while the GU men lost, 202-98. The meet served as Georgetown's senior day as the Hoyas recognized their 19 seniors during a mid-meet ceremony.
The women's squad got off to a strong start, taking second and third in the 200-yard medley relay, before sweeping the top three spots in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Cristina Barrett (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) touched the wall first in 10:31.40, while Christine Ryan (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) just out-touched Olivia Schubert (Staten Island, N.Y./Saint Joseph Hill Academy) for second. Barrett won her second event of the day in the 500-yard freestyle, pulling away in the second half of the race to win in 5:07.04.
In the 50-yard freestyle, the trio of Morgan Conley (Winnetka, Ill./Chatham/New Trier School [N.J.]), Bailey Page (Brentwood, Tenn./Ravenwood) and Kirstin Peterson (Hunterdon County, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) placed second, third and fourth. Molly Fitzpatrick (Manchester, N.H./The Derryfield School) touched the wall second in both the 100- and 200-yard backstroke, while Evie Mauzé (St. Louis, Mo./MICDS) finished second in the 200-yard backstroke, and third in the 100-yard backstroke.
Riley Fujioka (Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos) won both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives, recording scores of 252.45 and 279.15, respectively. Elizabeth Miller (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) and Naomi Peng (Gainesville, Fla./Eastside) both finished second and third, respectively, in each event.
On the men's side, Andrew Stange (St. James, N.Y./Saint Anthony's) set a McCarthy Pool record in the 200-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 1:41.28. Jack Lynch (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) won the 200-yard butterfly in 1:55.35, and Seth Maslowski (Cary, N.C./Green Hope) finished first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.48.
Drew Carbone (Chelmsford, Mass./Central Catholic) and Henry Hollinshead (Raleigh, N.C./Green Hope) took second and third, respectively, in both the 100- and 200-yard backstroke. Jacob Kohlhoff (Tega Clay, N.C./Fort Mill) also finished second in the 100-yard freestyle.
In the diving events, Griffin Edmonds (Norwalk, Conn./New Canaan) placed second in both the 1- and 3-meter events, while Matthew Werner (Elkins Park, Pa./Cheltenham) and Jonathan Furlong (Londonderry, N.H./The Derryfield School) took third and fourth, respectively, in 3-meter dive.
The Hoyas will be back in action for their final regular season meet of the year, when they take on BIG EAST opponents Seton Hall and Providence in a neutral-site meet on Saturday, Feb. 3. The tri-meet will take place at the Berkeley Aquatic Club in New Providence, New Jersey.
