The women improve to 7-4 with a win over Drexel.

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown women's swimming and diving team (7-4) defeats the Drexel Dragons, 164-114 today at McCarthy Pool. The men's team (3-7) lost, 166-114. Sophomores Caitlin Colling (Monson, Mass./Monson) and Tori Maffey (Mountainside, N.J./Mount St. Mary) each claimed four first place finishes.

Colling placed first in the 200 yard freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 individual medley and was part of the first-place 400 medley relay squad. Maffey finished first in the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke and was part of both the 400 freestyle relay and the 400 medley relay. Rounding out the 400 medley relay with Colling and Maffey were sophomore Claire Nugent (Westport, Conn./The Hopkins School) and freshman Christina DiNapoli (Saddle River, N.J./Immaculate Heart). The first place 400 freestyle relay quartet consisted of senior tri-captain Katie Amaro (Shreveport, La./Loyola Prep), senior Julie Dougherty (East Haven, Conn./East Haven), and freshman Katelyn O'Connor (New Rochelle, N.Y./The Ursuline School). Dougherty also swam into a first place finish in the 100 freestyle.

Also delivering a strong performance for the women was senior tri-captain Corinne Rhodes (Arlington, Va./The Madeira School) who took first in the 100 breaststroke and 50 freestyle as well as a second place finish in the 100 freestyle.

 

 

Hoya divers sophomore Katie Oldham (Verdi, Nev./McQueen), sophomore Jessica Rettig (Palm Harbor, Fla./Palm Harbor University HS), and freshman Bella Schori (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx School of Science) claimed the top three spots in the three meter diving event, respectively.

On the men's side, freshman standout Daniel Robinson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) finished first in four events. Robinson won the 200 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 200 individual medley and was part of the first place 400 medley relay team that also consisted of sophomore Chris Ball (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham), and freshmen Goran Bistric (Saugus, Calif./William S. Hart) and David Ballinger (Pleasantville, N.Y./Pleasantville). Ballinger was victorious in the 100 and 200 butterfly. Ball delivered tough performances with a first place finish in the 500 freestyle and a second place finish in the 200 freestyle. Bistric placed first in the 100 backstroke, as well.

The Hoyas return to action when they celebrate Senior Day on Saturday, February 4 when they host Lafayette at 2 p.m. in McCarthy Pool.
