Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown men's swimming and diving team (4-7) ends the regular season with a win over Lafayette, 175-119. The women's team (7-5) falls just short of the Leopards, 151-149, to end the season. Four Hoyas qualified for the BIG EAST Championships today including senior diver Doug Curran (St. Louis, Mo./DeSmet Jesuit) in the one meter diving event.

Curran took first place in the one meter diving event with a score of 256.68 and then second place in the three meter diving. Fellow senior diver, Santini Reali (Sarasota, Fla./Pine View), took first and second place in the three meter and one meter events, respectively.

Also delivering a first place finish for the men's team was the quartet of senior tri-captain Heath Walden (Scituate, Mass./Boston College High) and freshmen Daniel Robinson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon), David Ballinger (Pleasantville, N.Y./Pleasantville) and Goran Bistric (Saugus, Calif./William S. Hart) who won the 200 yard medley relay. Ballinger also had two first and one second place finishes in the 200 butterfly, 100 butterfly and the 400 individual medley, respectively. Robinson had first and third place finishes in the 400 individual medley and the 200 backstroke. Bistric swam to a second place finish in the 200 backstroke. Walden was part of the second-place 200 freestyle relay with senior tri-captain Don Ball (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham), sophomore Chris Ball (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham), and freshman Brian Badala (San Anselmo, Calif./Drake).

 

 

Chris Ball won the 200 and 500 freestyle events. Senior tri-captain Jon Hayden (Woodbridge, Va./Osbourn Park) and senior Kevin Rieffel (Ambler, Pa./La Salle College High) were right behind Ball in the 500 freestyle, garnering second and third place finishes, respectively. Rieffel placed first in the 1000 freestyle while Hayden had two additional second place finishes in the 1000 freestyle and 200 butterfly.

On the women's side, sophomores Caitlin Colling (Monson, Mass./Monson), Tori Maffey (Mountainside, N.J./Mount St. Mary) and Claire Nugent (Westport, Conn./The Hopkins School) qualified for the BIG EAST Championships in the 200 freestyle, 200 backstroke and 200 butterfly, respectively. Colling won the 200 freestyle event and had second and third place finishes in the 50 and 100 freestyle events, respectively. Maffey and Nugent qualified by winning their events.

Sophomore diver Kelcey Moore (Arlington, Va./The Madeira School) swept the one and three meter diving events.

Senior tri-captains Corinne Rhodes (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) and Katie Amaro (Shreveport, La./Loyola Prep) won a pair of events each. Rhodes took the 100 and 200 breaststroke while Amaro won the 500 and 1000 freestyle and delivered a second place finish in the 200 freestyle. Amaro was also part of the third place 200 freestyle relay with senior Julie Dougherty (East Haven, Conn./East Haven), sophomore Megan Maragakes (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) and Maffey.

The Hoyas will send all qualifiers to the BIG EAST Championships, held in Long Island, N.Y., which start Wednesday, Feb. 15.
