WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University swimming and diving team completed its dual meet season at the University of Maryland, as Scott Dennis, Courtlyn Cook and Kathryn Berg all posted BIG EAST Championship qualifying times.
On the men's side, Dennis, a freshman, earned qualifying times in the 1650 yard freestyle with a time of 16:33.74. Later in the meet he finished the 200 yard freestyle in 1:48.76 to earn a qualifying time for the BIG EAST Championships. Sam Gyory turned in a strong performance for the Hoyas, finishing third in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 54.23.
On the women's side, Cook, another freshman, qualified for the BIG EAST Championships by swimming a 1:00.38 in the 100 yard butterfly, good for fourth in the event, behind teammate Lauren Opatrny. She was joined by Berg, a senior, who qualified in the 100 yard breaststroke, finishing in 1:09.22.
Overall the Hoyas' men fell 227-54, while the women fell 228-47, as Georgetown chose to rest some of its team or race them in different events in preparation for the BIG EAST Tournament.
The diving competition at the BIG EAST Championships begin in Pittsburgh, Pa. on Friday, February 10, with the swimming championships starting five days later on Wednesday, February 15.
