PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Georgetown University swimming and diving team concluded its regular season on Saturday afternoon at the two-day BIG EAST Quad Meet against Seton Hall, Villanova and host Rutgers at the RU Aquatic Center. The meet was moved to this weekend after being postponed by Hurricane Sandy on November 2-3.
The men's side split its results, defeating Seton Hall 120-53, while being edged out by Villanova, 181.5-174.5. The women's fell to Rutgers, 287-66, to Seton Hall, 100-67 and to Villanova, 264-88.
Matthew Mandel got the men's side off to a strong start, finishing third place in the 50 yard freestyle in 21.90, as Michael Conaton and Michael Spinelli took fifth and sixth, respectively. Mandel also claimed third place in the 100 yard freestyle in 47.89. Later, Spinelli earned a second place finish in the 100 yard butterfly in 53.14
Paul Quincy had a strong two-days, winning three events and earning a second place finish in a fourth. The Hoya men dominated the 500 yard freestyle, as Quincy claimed the top spot in 4:40.42, with William Lawler finishing second in 4:45.35 and Austin Evenson finishing fifth. Quincy followed by winning the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 9:39.82, as Greg Romanov and Tom Cooke finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Late in the meet, Quincy won the 400 yard individual medley in a time of 4:10.96. He also earned a second place finish in the 200 yard butterfly in 1:55.94, one-hundredth of a second behind Villanova's Ben Smith, who won the event.
Christian Kilgore won the 100 yard breaststroke in 59.97 and the 200 yard breaststroke in a time of 2:10.61. He also earned a second place finish in the 200 yard individual medley, finishing less than a second behind the winner, in 1:59.49.
Bryan Doremus took first place in the one-meter diving competition with a final score of 267.05. He finished second in the three-meter diving competition in 250.25.
The Hoyas quartet of Michael Young, Kilgore, Lawler and Mandel won the 200 yard medley relay in 1:35.52. Ng, Kilgore, Lawler and Rohde won the 400 yard medley relay in 3:32.43. GU finished in second place in both the 200 yard freestyle relay, in 1:27.01 and the 400 yard freestyle relay in 3:10.65.
On the women's side, Nicole Tronolone finished in sixth place in the 1000 yard freestyle, finishing in a time of 10:42.78, with Emily Hall and Christina Daquila finishing seventh and eighth, respectively.
Erin Timochenko earned a fifth place finish in the 100 yard backstroke, finishing in a time of 59.96. Timochenko would also finish fifth in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 58.67.
Timochenko would later lead-off the Hoyas 200 yard freestyle relay squad, including Alanna Hulburd, Maryellen Campbell and Erica Fabbri, who finished fifth in 1:40.40. Timochenko, Campbell, Lauren Ward and Fabbri would also finish fifth in the 200 yard medley relay in 1:52.05.
The women's diving squad turned in strong performances, as Shannon Donohue placed third in the three-meter diving competition with 227.35 points, as teammate Jen Purks finished fourth with 210.90. In the one-meter diving competition Casandra Schwartz finished fifth with 213.50 points and Donohue finished sixth with 211.45.
The Blue & Gray will next compete at the BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championships set to take place in Indianapolis, Ind. The diving competition begins will span two-days between February 27-28, with the swimming portion being held on March 1-2.
