Feb. 15, 2014
VILLANOVA, Pa. - Freshman Jared Cooper-Vespa earned a silver medal in the men's three-meter diving competition, then came back and earned bronze in the one-meter diving competition at the BIG EAST Diving Championships, hosted on campus at Villanova University on Saturday.
The BIG EAST Championships, originally scheduled to take place between Friday and Saturday, was condensed into one day due to the treacherous travel conditions on the east coast.
The Georgetown University diving squad adjusted to the shortened schedule, earning a medal on the men's and women's side in the early session. Cooper-Vespa scored a 249.85 in the preliminary round, before scoring a 271.30 in the final round to finish second to Seton Hall's Ben Mitchell in the three-meter diving competition.
On the women's side Lauren Kahan's finals score of 217.60 gave her 429.80 during two round to earn her a bronze medal in a crowded one-meter diving competition. Casandra Schwartz and Jen Purks finished fourth and five, respectively for the Hoyas.
In the afternoon session, Cooper-Vespa finished with a two-round score of 471.40 in the one-meter diving competition to earn bronze for the Hoyas. Jen Purks finished just off the medal stand with a two-round score of 399.55, good for fourth place.
