Georgetown Swimming Completes First Day at BIG EAST Championships in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Georgetown University swimming team opened competition at the BIG EAST Championships on Wednesday evening at Trees Pool on campus at Pittsburgh University. The meet opened with the men's and women's 800 yard freestyle and men's and women's 200 yard medley relay.
Through the first four total events, Georgetown is ninth overall with 86 points. The men's team is currently in sixth through two events with 56 points, while the women are 10th with 30 points.
The men's 800 yard freestyle relay team, consisting of Matthew Mandel, Chris Finnegan, Will Lawler and Paul Quincy posted a strong finish, coming in sixth place with a time of 6:41.99. The men's 200 yard medley relay team finished in 1:32.19 with Michael Ng, Brad Crist, Lawler and Mandel.
On the women's side, Laura Tramer, Kim DiNapoli, Sarah Chiles and Lauren Opatrny finished 11th in the 800 yard freestyle with a time of 7:44.28. The women's 200 yard medley relay, consisting of Opatrny, Allison Fulenwider, Casey Bandman and Alexandra Van Nispen finished in ninth place in 1:46.71.
Competition resumes at the BIG EAST Championships on Thursday, February 16. Finals for preliminary events swam on Thursday begin at 6 p.m.
