Bistric Breaks School Record on Third Day of BIG EAST Championships

Washington, D.C. - Freshman standout swimmer Goran Bistric (Saugus, Calif./William S. Hart) breaks his own record of 52.98 in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 52.54 on the third day of the BIG EAST Championships. Both the men and women currently stand in 11th place at the championships held at the Nassau County Aquatic Center in East Meadow, N.Y.
Bistric also helped the men with his 34th place finish in the 100 butterfly with a time of 51.59. Fellow freshman David Ballinger (Plasantville, N.Y./Pleasantville) turned in a 34th and 37th place finish in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly, respectively. Freshman Daniel Robinson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) swam the 400 individual medley in 4:12.37 to finish in 28th place. Senior tri-captain Heath Walden (Scituate, Mass./Boston College High) delivered a 31st place finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 53.95. In the 200 freestyle sophomore Chris Ball (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) delivered the fastest Hoya performance with a time of 1:44.50. Close behind Ball was senior tri-captain Jon Hayden (Woodbridge, Va./Osbourn Park) with a time of 1:48.18. Bistric, Robinson, Walden and Ball teamed up in the 400 medley relay and turned in a ninth place finish with a ime of 3:33.41.
On the women's side, senior tri-captain Corinne Rhodes (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) swam the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.88. Also placing in the 100 breaststroke was sophomore Christina DiNapoli (Saddle River, N.J./immaculate Heart), finishing 43rd with a time of 1:10.74. Senior tri-captain Katie Amaro (Shreveport, La./Loyola Prep) delivered a 1:55.75 time in the 200 freestyle, earning a 24th place finish. In the 100 butterfly, sophomore Claire Nugent (Westport, Conn./The Hopkins School) finished with a time of 59.40 for a 30th place finish. Teammate junior Laura Sytnyk (Nutley, N.J./Mount St. Dominic) was not far behind with a time of 1:00.27. Sytnyk also placed 30th in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:40.88. Also delivering a 30th place finish was junior Liz Nugent (Westport, Conn./The Hopkins School) with a time of 1:00.28 in the 100 backstroke. Sophomore Tori Maffey (Mountainside, N.J./Mount St. Mary) placed 36th in the event, timing in at 1:01.34. Rhodes, Amaro and both Nugent sisters took 11th place in the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:01.81. Sophomore diver Kelcey Moore (Arlington, Va./The Madeira School) placed 14th in the three meter diving event with a score of 339.35.
The Hoyas continue competition at the BIG EAST Championships at the Nassau County Aquatic Center through Saturday evening. Events slated for Saturday are the men's and women's 400 medley relay, 1650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 400 freestyle relay and the men's three meter diving event. |
