Hoyas Second After Day Two of BIG EAST Swimming & Diving Championships

Day Two Results

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's and women's swimming & diving both sit in second place after the second day of the 2017 BIG EAST Swimming & Diving Championships, presented by Jeep, at the Nassau Aquatics Center on Long Island, N.Y. Thursday consisted of the 500-yard freestyle, the 200-yard individual medley (IM), the 50-yard freestyle, women's 1-meter diving and the 200-yard freestyle relay.

The Hoya women, who were fourth after Wednesday's events, sit comfortably in second with 246 points. They are 60 points ahead of third-place Xavier, but trail Villanova, which sits in first with 369 points. On the men's side, Georgetown remained in second place with 267 points, just 25 points behind first-place Seton Hall. The Blue & Gray are more than 40 points ahead of third-place Villanova (224).

On the women's side, Georgetown got out to a strong start when Cristina Barrett (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) raced to a fourth-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 4:53.39. In the 200-yard IM, Laine Morgan (Miami, Fla./Ransom Everglades School) and Molly Fitzpatrick (Manchester, N.H./The Derryfield School) finished second and third with times of 2:02.78 and 2:03.15, respectively. Margaret Barnhorst (Pontre Vedra Beach, Fla./Ponte Vedra) and Elizabeth Miller (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) also finished second and third in the women's 1-meter diving with scores of 513.80 and 507.10, respectively. Sarah Jaklitsch (Hingham, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) was fifth with 384.65 points.


 

 

On the men's side, Daniel Ross (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) touched the wall in 1:49.88 to place second in the 200-yard IM, just .52 seconds out of first. Jacob Kohlhoff (Tega Clay, N.C./Fort Mill) was GU's other medalist as he finished third in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:27.98.

Day three of the BIG EAST Championships will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday with the preliminary heats, while the evening finals are scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday's events will include the 400-yard IM, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke, men's 1-meter diving and the 400-yard medley relay.
