NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. - The Georgetown University men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams concluded the two-day Rutgers Quad Meet at the Werblin Recreation Center with the host Scarlet Knights and BIG EAST opponents Seton Hall and Villanova on Saturday.
The men’s team defeated Villanova, 257-96, and fell to Seton Hall, 224-129. The women defeated the Pirates, 200-151, while falling to both Rutgers (256-97) and Villanova (264-83). For the Hoyas, the meet was their first taste of conference competition leading up to February’s BIG EAST Championships.
The Hoya men’s 200-yard medley relay team of senior Cal Rohde (Greenwich, Conn./The Peddie School), freshman Arthur Wang (Wilmington, Del./Charter School of Wilmington), junior Martin Vanin (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Bolivar) and junior William Leach (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) took second place, finishing one second behind Seton Hall, in 1:35.89 in the second event of the morning and 24th of the meet.
Sophomore Dan Ross (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Twp.) earned a second-place finish in the men’s 400-yard individual medley in 4:08.69, while Sam Delise (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) finished fourth in a time of 4:15.57.
Vanin finished second in the men’s 100-yard butterfly in a time of 51.39, while junior David Chung (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) was close behind in fourth-place in 51.83.
Senior Austin Evenson (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Pine Crest School) took second in the men’s 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:46.30, while junior Evan Grey (Williston, Vt./Champlain Valley Union) finished fourth in 4:47.60.
The men took second through fourth place in the 200-yard breaststroke, with Wang finishing seconds behind the leader in 2:10.09. Delise finished third in 2:11.21, while sophomore Matt Glockenmeier (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) was fourth in 2:11.69.
The quartet of Ross, Leach, Chung and freshman Jacob Kohlhoff (Tega Clay, N.C./Fort Mill) finished second for the Hoyas in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:10.80.
On the women’s side sophomore Bailey Page (Brentwood, Tenn./Ravenwood), earned a fourth-place finish in the women’s 100-yard freestyle, turning in a time of 52.93.
Junior Katie Duncalf (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) finished fifth in the women’s 200-yard backstroke in 2:06.98.
Senior Erica Fabbri (Yardley, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) earned a fourth-place finish in the women’s 100-yard butterfly in 57.62.
In diving action, sophomore Ben Goodfriend (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) won the 3-meter competition with 263.50 points. Junior Jared Vespa-Cooper (Orange, Conn./The Hopkins School) finished second with 239.65.
Georgetown will wrap up its fall season when they travel to Lewisburg, Pa. for the three-day Bucknell Invitational, beginning on Friday, November 20.
