Georgetown Swimming and Diving Finishes First Day at BIG EAST Quad Meet

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Georgetown University men's and women's swimming and diving team finished competition at the BIG EAST Quad Meet on campus at Rutgers on Friday afternoon. The men's squad currently leads Villanova and Seton Hall, while the women trail Villanova, Seton Hall and Rutgers through the first 20 events.

The men's team got off to a strong start, taking first and third place in the 200 yard medley relay, with its first place team winning in a time of 1:26.91.

Michael Ng earned a victory in the 100 yard backstroke, winning with a time of 52.34, while Mike Young took second place in 53.29. Austin Evenson won decisively in the 1000 yard freestyle, finishing in 9:51.00, just over 12 seconds in front of the second place competitor. Michael Smigelski took first place in the 50 yard freestyle, winning in in 21.91, while Young earned third place in 22.25.

In the fourth event, the men's 200 yard freestyle, Cal Rohde placed second in a time of 1:45.15. Christian Kilgore earned a second place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:00.34. Martin Vanin followed with a second place finish in the 200 yard butterfly, finishing in 1:58.38. Evan Grey and David Chung took second and third respectively in the 200 yard IM. Jared Vespa-Cooper took second place in the men's one-meter diving competition, the final competition of the day, with a 273.75.



On the women's side Emma Cammann earned a fourth place finish in the 100 yard backstroke, finishing in 1:00.04. Molly Gaynor took fifth place in the 200 yard butterfly, finishing in 2:10.92, while Erica Fabbri finished fifth in the 50 yard freestyle in 24.95.

After the first day of competition, the Hoyas men lead Villanova, 116-64 and lead Seton Hall, 109.50-75.50. The women's team trails Villanova 139-44, Seton Hall, 122.5-62.5 and Rutgers 147-39.
