Three Records Set on First Day of Bucknell Invite

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University swimming & diving team saw three program records fall and both the men's and women's squads sit in second place following the first day of the Bucknell Invite. Racing is taking place at Bucknell's Kinney Natatorium.

Through the first six events, the Hoya men¬¬¬¬ have 336 points, holding a half-point lead over La Salle (335.5), while trailing just Towson (355). Fordham (274), Binghamton (241), OId Dominion (240) and the host Bison (206.5) bring up the final four.

On the women's side, the Hoyas have earned 370.5 points, trailing just Towson (496). Bucknell (355.5), Fordham (342), Old Dominion (195), La Salle (147) and Binghamton (109) finish out the pack.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Jack Calderwood (Houston, Texas/Strake Jesuit), Andrew Stange (St. James, N.Y./Saint Anthony's), Jacob Kohlhoff (Tega Clay, N.C./Fort Mill), Seth Maslowski (Cary, N.C./Green Hope) got the Hoyas off to a flying start, placing second with a time of 1:23.26 to finish less than a second behind the quartet from La Salle. The Hoyas came in with the second-best time out of the morning preliminaries.

Drew Carbone (Chelmsford, Mass./Central Catholic) broke a pair of Georgetown records on Friday, first in the 200-yard IM where he broke the 1:50 mark, touching the wall in 1:49.83 to place second. He later opened the 400-yard medley relay with a 49.43, breaking the record for the 100-yard backstroke and leading the Hoyas to a fifth-place finish in the event.

Christina Barrett (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) broke her own school record in the women's 500-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 4:52.24. She took more than three seconds off of her preliminary race earlier in the day.


 

 

In the 3-meter dive, Elizabeth Miller (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) finished second with a score of 262.45 to lead a trio of Hoyas in the top six. Naomi Peng (Gainesville, Fla./Eastside) also took fourth, while Riley Fujioka (Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos) placed sixth.

The weekend will continue on Saturday with preliminaries beginning at 10 a.m. and the evening finals at 6 p.m. Saturday's events will include the 400-yard IM, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yard backstroke.
