Men's Swimming and Diving Finishes in Eighth Place Upon Completion of the Patriot Invitational

Washington, D.C. - After the final day of swimming at the Patriot Invitational, the Georgetown men's swimming and diving team finishes in eighth place with 124 points, while the women place ninth with 107 points. The meet was hosted by George Mason University at the Aquatic and Fitness Center in Fairfax, Va.
Three school records were broken in this weekend's competition. Freshman Goran Bistric (Saugus Calif./William S. Hart) broke the 200 yard backstroke record with a time of 1:54.62. The old record was held by Larry Kelly (1:55.53) and was one of the oldest record's in school history and the only one left on the board from before Head Coach Bethany Bower took over the program. The other two records were set by senior captain Jon Hayden (Woodbridge, Va./Osbourn Park). Hayden broke his own existing records in the 1000 and 1650 yard freestyle events.
Additionally, there were multiple BIG EAST qualifiers at this meet. Senior captain Katie Amaro (Shreveport, La./Loyola Prep) qualified in the 100, 200, 500 and 1650 yard freestyle events. Junior Liz Nugent (Westport, Conn./The Hopkins School) qualified in the 100 and 200 yard backstroke events. Junior Laura Sytnyk (Nutley, N.J./Mount St. Dominic) qualified in the 100 and 200 yard butterfly in addition to the 400 yard idividual medley. Senior captain Corinne Rhodes (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) qualified in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke.
Bistric, who already qualified in other meets in the 100 and 200 yard backstroke, also qualified for the 100 yard butterfly this weekend. Hayden qualified in the 200, 500, and 1650 yard freestyle events as well as the 200 yard butterfly. Freshman David Ballinger (Pleasantville, N.Y./Pleasantville) qualified in the 100 yard backstroke and the 100 and 200 yard butterfly. Senior Heath Walden (Scituate, Mass./Boston College High) qualified in the 100 yard backstroke as well as the 200 yard butterfly event. Freshman Daniel Robinson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) qualified in the 200 and 100 yard backstroke and the 200 and 400 yard individual medley. The Hoyas finished the first half of their season and will begin the second half in January. |
