LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Georgetown University swimming and diving team completed the first day of competition at the three-day Bucknell Invite at Kinney Natatorium, as the women's team is currently fourth of 10 teams with 227 points, while the men are fifth of nine teams with 201 points.
The women's strong performance, started in the evening's first event, the women's 200 yard freestyle relay. The Hoyas squad of Erica Fabbri, Maryellen Campbell, Molly Gaynor and Erin Timochenko captured second place behind Delaware in a time of 1:35.94. Georgetown's men would finish fourth in the 200 yard freestyle relay, with Michael Smigelski, Christian Kilgore, William Leach and Matthew Mandel finishing in 1:24.52.
Nicole Tronolone earned a spot in the "A" final during the morning preliminary, then set a new Georgetown record in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:58.13, good for a fourth place finish. On the men's side, Evan Grey earned a spot in the "A" final in the 500 yard freestyle, with a sixth place finish in the morning. In the evening, Grey earned an eighth place finish in 4:37.14.
Fabbri finished fifth overall in the "A" final of the 50 yard freestyle in a time of 23.96. In the men's 50 yard freestyle Matthew Mandel earned a fifth place finish in the "A" final with a time of 21.02, while Smigelski finished sixth in 21.25.
