WASHINGTON - The Georgetown swimming & diving team is currently in Bermuda for its annual winter training trip. Throughout the Hoyas' week-long stay, GUHoyas.com will receive updates from members of the team. Today's first update is from sophomore Cristina Barrett (Chatham, N.J./Chatham).
Hi from Bermuda!
As of right now, we're two practices into our training trip, and we've already had a pretty solid start. The team left Georgetown yesterday at 5:15 a.m., so we all had an early morning. We flew to Boston first, then flew from Boston to Bermuda. Our flights went surprisingly quickly, and we arrived in Bermuda at around 1:30 p.m. It was a little rainy when we got in, but anything felt warm compared to D.C. and Boston!
On our way to the hotel from the airport, we got to see most of the island, which is gorgeous. The water is really blue and all of the buildings are so brightly colored. After a grocery trip that was a little hectic (put 70 athletes in a grocery store and things are going to get crazy), we went to our hotel. We're all staying in different villas, but a lot of them have an amazing view of the ocean, and it's right on the beach. We had a little downtime before practice, and we left for the pool at 6:15.
Our first practice was from 7-9 p.m. last night, so we had a long day, but the pool is incredible. We're training short course meters for most of our trip, which is a little longer than Yates Field House and most pools we swim in, so we're all getting used to that.
We woke up early again for our second practice this morning, but we were able to push it from a 6 a.m. start to 7 a.m., so I'm being positive and saying it could have been much worse!
Overall, we've had a good start to the trip, and the team is all excited to be here and training in a place as pretty as this! We can't wait to have an amazing rest of the week!
