Swimming & Diving Has 17 Named All-BIG EAST

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's and women's swimming & diving teams had 17 student-athletes, nine women and eight men, selected to the All-BIG EAST Team following last month's BIG EAST Championships at the Nassau County Aquatic Center in East Meadow, N.Y.

The All-BIG EAST squad is comprised of swimmers and divers who finished in the top three in any individual or relay event at the championships. Forty women and 41 men completed the list, while a total of 26 women and 27 men earned all-conference honors for multiple events.

The Hoya women had nine student-athletes earn all-conference honors, including seven who medaled in multiple events. Molly Fitzpatrick (Manchester, N.H./The Derryfield School), who won both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke, earned All-BIG EAST honors in five different events. Margaret Barnhorst (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Ponte Vedra), who was named the championship's Most Outstanding Women's Diver, earned all-conference nods in both the 3-meter and 1-meter dive where she finished first and second, respectively. Elizabeth Miller (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) was also named All-BIG EAST in both diving events.

On the men's side, eight different Hoyas received All-BIG EAST selections, with five earning nods in multiple events. Jared Cooper-Vespa (Orange, Conn./The Hopkins School), who was named the championship's Most Outstanding Men's Diver, earned all-conference honors in both diving events after winning the 3-meter dive and finishing second in the 1-meter dive. Ryan Blom (Hershey, Pa./Milton Hershey) won the 1-meter dive and finished second in the 3-meter dive to also earn All-BIG EAST accolades in both diving events. Jacob Kohlhoff (Tega Clay, N.C./Fort Mill) led the Hoya men with three all-conference selections.



The Blue & Gray each finished second at the 2017 BIG EAST Championships. The Hoya men earned 677.50 points over the four-day championship meet to finish behind Seton Hall (872.50). Georgetown's women's squad scored 685 total points, behind only Villanova (1,017).
