WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's and women's swimming and diving team were two of the 10 BIG EAST squads recognized as Spring Scholar All-America Awards from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) when honors were announced this week.
The accolades are presented to collegiate swimming and diving teams who achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher in the semester coinciding with the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
The Georgetown women finished with a team GPA of 3.45 among the highest in the BIG EAST during the spring semester. The men's squad finished the term with a combined GPA of 3.23.
"These accolades are a testament to the hard work our student-athletes put in both in the classroom and the pool," Head Coach Jamie Holder said. "The focus for our program has always been on academics and providing the best balance between academics and athletics. I am excited to continue our improvement in both areas in the future."
The Hoyas swimming and diving program excelled under Holder in the pool and in the classroom during the 2013-14 season. The Blue & Gray earned team silver medals on both the men's and women's side at BIG EAST Championships in late February. The second place finish was the best performance in program history.
