WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University swimming & diving team and Head Coach Jack Leavitt have announced the schedule for the upcoming 2017-18 season. The Hoyas will compete in nine regular season meets, including two at Georgetown's Albert G. McCarthy Jr. Pool, as they prepare for the BIG EAST Championships.
"We feel that this schedule is very challenging and will give us opportunities to race against some great competition," said Leavitt, who is entering his second season on the Hilltop.
The annual Blue & Gray Intrasquad Meet will open the season as the Hoyas will host an exhibition at McCarthy Pool on Friday, September 22.
The regular season will open the following weekend with the Potomac Relays on Friday, September 29. The swimming portion of the meet will take place at American University while the diving will be held at McCarthy Pool. The following day, Saturday, September 30, the Hoyas will travel to Delaware for a meet with the Blue Hens and St. Francis (Pa.).
The Hoyas will host their first dual meet on Saturday, October 14 when Towson visits McCarthy Pool. The following weekend, GU will travel to North Carolina for a dual meet at Davidson on Saturday, October 28.
On the weekend of November 3-4, the Blue & Gray will travel to Rutgers for a quad meet. In two days of swimming, they Hoyas will compete against the host Scarlet Knights as well as Pittsburgh and BIG EAST foes Seton Hall and Villanova.
Georgetown will close out the first semester on the weekend of November 17-19 at the Bucknell Invite.
The 2018 portion of the schedule will open on Saturday, January 13 when the Hoyas make the quick trip to American for an all-D.C. meet against both the Eagles and George Washington.
On Saturday, January 20, GU returns to the friendly confines of McCarthy Pool for its Senior Day meet against Drexel.
The Hoyas close out the regular season on Saturday, February 3, racing against both Providence and Seton Hall in a final tune up for the BIG EAST Championships. The swimming will take place at the Berkeley (N.J.) Aquatic Club while the divers will compete at Seton Hall.
The BIG EAST Swimming & Diving Championships will be held Wednesday through Saturday, February 21-24, at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. Georgetown has finished second on both the men's and women's sides each of the past four seasons.
The women's NCAA Championships will be held at Ohio State, March 14-17, while the men's championships will take place the following week, March 21-24, at the University of Minnesota.
